Abstract

Simultaneous distillation-extraction (SDE) as a suitable method for preconcentration and sample preparartion was investigated on separation and identification of rose oil (Rosa damascena) components in the aqueous phases. Based on the analysis performed on the rose water and the redistillied distillate, 2-phenylethanol was determined as the major component with 84.22 and 91.49%, respectively. Simultaneous distillation-extraction of the aqueous 2phenylethanol solutions using different solvents such as n-butyl acetate, iso-buthanol, 2-ethyl hexanol and n-hexane were carried out. The best recovery was obtained for n-butyl acetate. In addition, the SDE experimental data was compared to the Pollien-Chaintreau model. The results show that the model prediction is very good without using any tunning parameter.
