Abstract

 Accumulation of PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS represents an important tool for environmental stress protection of plants. In this investigation, Garden cress seedlings grown in a control condition and irrigated with Hoagland nutrient solution were treated with methyl jasmonate (JA) at 0, 5, 10 and 20 mM and different concentration of COPPER (Cu) at 0, 50, 100 and 200 mM. Then shoots dry weight, phenolic compound contents, anthocyanin content and PAL activity in response to treatments were measured. The results on the effects of MJ (5 and 10 mM) on shoots dry weight, phenolic compound contents, anthocyanin content and PAL activity indicate that MJ might act as a signaling molecule to enhance antioxidant pool and protects plants against injuries caused by Cu toxicity.
