Abstract

East Azarbayjan of Iran was purposively selected as a specific area for this study. This province has a high potential for increaseng livestock production and productivity. Research provides technologies that helps production and productivity increase to be achieved, but technologies need to be transfered to farmers to ensure its impact. To study adoption level of dairy husbandry technologies and factors associated with adoption behaviour of livestock owners in dairy husbandry enterprises, a sample of 154 farmers from a total of eight villages,- four villages from high level plain areas and four villages from low level plain areas - were selected, using "stratified two - stage random sampling" method. Data were collected by filling out questionnaires, that had been tested before. The criteria like frequencies in terms of number and percentage, mean, product moment correlation were calculated. Also t-test and multiple regression analysis were used for the analysis of data. The results of study revealed that the majority of the two groups of livestock owners (59.09%) belonged to medium level of adoption behaviour, followed by 22.75 and 18.18 percent livestock owners belonging to high and low level of adoption behaviour respectively as regards dairy husbandry technologies. Information input, information output, farmer - intrasystem communication, farmer - researcher communication, farmer- extensionist communication, availability of input facilities and overall technical knowledge about dairy husbandry technologies had positive and highly significant relationship (p<0.01) with overall adoption behaviour of livestock owners to dairy husbandry technologies.
