STUDY ON STRUCTURE AND HYDROPHILIC PROPERTIES OF PSF/PEG MEMBRANE BY ADDITION OF SIO2 NANOPARTICLES

Abstract

 Polysulfone NANOCOMPOSITE MEMBRANEs were prepared by method of phase separation. Different weight percentages of silicon dioxide Nanoparticles as inorganic additives were added to PSF/PEG membrane to improve its hydrophilic properties. The blending of membranes improved by Silicon Dioxide Nanoparticles were confirmed by Fourier Transfer Infrared Spectroscopy. The NANOCOMPOSITE MEMBRANEs prepared were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope images for their surface and the cross-section morphology and their pores size produced. To investigate the hydrophilic properties NANOCOMPOSITE MEMBRANEs prepared, were conducted tests of measuring the water droplet contact angle and the water uptake amount in the various PHs. The results showed that the addition of nanoparticles to 5% Wt, hydrophilic properties were increased significantly.
