Abstract

 Having adopted a descriptive-analytic approach, the present study aims at investigating the significance, use, and psychological effects on teaching literature to high school students. It, from among the psychological theories, emphasized the “ freedom and common sense theory” proposed by Erich Fromm. Although there is a general consensus nowadays regarding the important role that psychology plays in all educational aspect, teachers, and material development, he issue gains more importance in case of literature. Having analyzed Fromm’ s beliefs, it could be concluded that literature creates a situation which can lead to potentially nurturing the mental abilities of the person-here, the students. Accordingly, literature creates a form of true freedom which is superior to the untrue aspects or its phantasy. Therefore, giving a proper direction to textbooks and teachers’ awareness towards such a skyline is a necessary criterion. The analysis of this issue implies how vast and reliable the role of psychological achievements is in teaching literature.
