Title

cytological Study of Genital Secretions at Various Stages of Estrous Cycle in Khuzestan Buffalo

Pages

  1-12

Abstract

Inroduction & Objective: It seems that the cellular appearance of the animal's reproductive system to be affected by the stages and phases of the estrous cycle. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cytological variations (cellular immunity and epithelial Cells) of genital Secretions at different stages of estrous cycle in female Khuzestan Buffalo. Materials and Methods: Reproductive organs of the adult, non-pregnant and apparently healthy female Buffaloes were collected from the slaughterhouse of Ahvaz. According to the morphological appearance of the corpus luteum, the estrous cycle was classified to metestrous, early diestrous, late diestrous and proestrous plus estrous phases. Samples were collected from Secretions of different parts of the genital tract and stained with Giemsa method. Results: The results showed that the percentage of most of the cytological parameters (immune and epithelial Cells) of the internal and external cervical discharge as well as superficial Secretion of the uterus body were not statistically differ between the stages and phases of the estrous cycle (P>0. 05). The percentage of macrophage in external os Secretions of cervix in the luteal phase of the estrous cycle was significantly higher than that of the follicular phase (P<0. 05). Conclusion: Generally, from the present study in female Khuzestan Buffalo it can be concluded that the most of immune and epithelial cell percentages of cervix and uterine at different stages of estrous cycle was similar. However, by evaluation the percentage of macrophages in external os Secretion of cervix, the luteal phase of estrous cycle can be distinguished from the follicular phase.
