Abstract

Abstract: A robust method in the analysis of ship hull module is the SUPER ELEMENT technique.In this technique, the hull structure is divided into some STIFFENED PANELs (SUPER ELEMENTs). In order to reduce number of degrees of freedom and CPU time, the STIFFENED PANEL stiffness matrix will be condensed so that the inner degrees of freedom are omitted but their effects on the outer degrees of freedom are remained. In this study, the condensed stiffness matrix of a STIFFENED PANEL with arbitrary n stiffeners is obtained analytically and is implemented in a finite element program called PASS (a Program for Analysis of Ship Structure). Then the bulkhead and the hull module of a 60 m long ship are modeled by PASS and by SAP, a conventional structural analysis program. The obtained results are compared with beam theory as well and it is shown that considering the engineering level of accuracy, the PASS program performs better than SAP in the analysis of ship structure.
