Abstract

This paper reports the development and implementation of a new DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING approach for PIECEWISE analysis of large-scale electrical networks using DIAKOPTICS and Large Change Sensitivity (LCS) concepts. Detailed analysis of such bulk and complex systems in a secure and federative manner based only on local computational resources is the greatest benefit realized by this method of analysis, here referred to as Global Network Simulation (GNS). Application of this method is described for Fast Decoupled Load Flow (FDLF), though it can be potentially developed for other computational routines simply by inspection. This method Provides the same convergence characteristic as the original untorn FDLF and leads to the same results. Two innovative techniques, are employed, i.e. BUS TEARING and SYMMETRICAL SHUNT ELEMENTS, respectively, to facilitate the network decomposition process, and to resolve the ill-conditioning problem in a much easier way than temporary slack buses. The multi-computer platforms, whether tightly or loosely coupled, can be used to implement the proposed method. The GNS methodology has been practically embedded in a well-established software package called PASHA. Using this software, various networks up to 3000 buses have been successfully subjected to distributed simulation across computer networks.
