Abstract

 In this research work, a new turbulence model, introduced as turbulent potential model, is used to predict the onset of transition from laminar to turbulent and also to estimate transition length in flat plate flows. Analysis is carried out for both the zero and non-zero pressure gradients under different free stream turbulence intensities. In contrast to most of traditional turbulence models, no assumptions are used to establish any constitutive relations between averaged flow variables with governed turbulence quantities. Comparison made between final results with those obtained through experiments show a good capability of present model in analysis of non-equilibrium flows, such as transition from laminar to turbulent.
