Abstract

A total of 262 BLUE SWIMMING CRAB, PORTUNUS PELAGICUS, were collected over an 11 month period with trawl and gillnet in BUSHEHR coastal water of the PERSIAN GULF. In all of the samples of male and female, CARAPACE LENGTH (CL), CARAPACE WIDTH (CW) and wet WEIGHT of the body (WW) were measured. The correlation coefficient of data were significant at P<0.01. The relationships between CARAPACE WIDTH with WEIGHT in males, females and juveniles were: Male WW=1.4392 CW-89.114 (R=0.86)Female WW=2.5759CW-224.67 (R=0.92) Juvenile WW=2.8875 CW-245.98 (R=0.91)The relationships between CARAPACE LENGTH with WEIGHT in males, females and juveniles were:Male WW=5.7551CL-203.69 (R=0.93)Female WW=4.6245CL-150.1 (R=0.88)Juvenile WW=0.303CL-27.418 (R=0.77)A significant difference was observed at level of P<0.05. The results indicated that male were heavier than female at any given age of this crab.
