Abstract

Concentrations of Zn, Pb, Cd and Cr in the shell and tissue of rock oyster, Saccosterea cucullata, in four different stations along Hormozgan coast were determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The four stations, viz, Hormoz, Garzeh, Kalat and Mogham, were selected based on the degree of their isolation from human influence.The mean concentrations for Zn, Pb, Cd and Cr in the shell samples were 5.9, 11.07, 1.7 and 4.88 ppm, respectively, which did not exceed the EPA standard. The concentrations of the respective elements in the tissue samples were 1.18, 5.2, 3.84 and 1.79 ppm, for which the Pb, Cd and Cr exceeded the EPA and FDA standards, but not for Zn.
