Title

COMPARISON OF PERFORMANCE OF THREE COMMON TRACTORS IN IRAN

Pages

  21-32

Abstract

Performance parameters relevant to the traction of three COMMON TRACTORs in Iran, namely, Universal(U) 650, Massey Ferguson (MP) 285 and ITM-750 with 48.5, 56 and 56KW rated engine powers, respectively, while pulling a 3-bottom MOLDBOARD plow or a chisel plow at two PLOWING DEPTHs (150 and 250mm) on a silty clay loam soil were measured. Using split-plots design with three replications, performance parameters including drive wheel slip, fuel consumption and field capacity were evaluated and compared. In this experiment different combinations of PLOWING DEPTH and plow type were selected as the main treatments, while the three tractors were considered as sub-treatments.Analysis of the test results showed that MF-285 without water ballasting with the mean wheel slip of 15.6% had the highest wheel slip compared with those ofU-650 and ITM 750 which were 6.7 and 11 %, respectively. When MF-285 tyres were water ballasted up to 75% of capacity, their mean wheel slip was reduced to 11.8%.The tested tractors had significantly different fuel consumption rates. ITM-750 and MF-285 with 13 and 18.3 I/ha had the lowest and the highest theoretical fuel consumption rates, respectively. The field capacities of the MOLDBOARD and chisel plows with the tested tractors were also significantly different. The average field capacity of MOLDBOARD plow with U-650, ITM-750 and MF-285 with and without water ballast were 0.37,0.6,0.28 and 0.27 ha/h, respectively. While those of chisel plow were 0.76, 1.05,0.5 and 0.47 ha/hr, respectively.
