Abstract

One of the best ways to eliminate the heavy metals from the factories' sewage is to use live or dead microorganisms. The resistant microorganisms of the natural polluted habitats are suitable for this purpose. The expansion of industrial activities and the efflux of factories' sewages in the west of Bandar Abbas (in the south of Iran) have polluted the coasts of this area with CADMIUM. In this study, the samples were gathered from surface sediments of nine stations in three transect on the coastline. Pseudomonas sp, E. coli, and Citrobacter sp were isolated from the sediments. The growth kinetic of these bacteria in media containing 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 millimoles of CADMIUM was similar to the growth kinetic of bacteria in standard conditions. The capability of these bacteria in the elimination of CADMIUM from the solution containing 100 milligrams of CADMIUM nitrate per liter was between 23 to 66.5 percent:Therefore, using these resistant strains isolated from polluted sediments and highly capable of eliminating the CADMIUM pollution is suggested.
