ONE-DIMENSIONAL NUMERICAL MODELING OF FLOW AND POLLUTION IN CANAL WITH FINITE DIFFERENCE METHOD AND UNCOUPLED MODEL

Abstract

 WHEN POLLUTION DISCHARGES TO AN ENVIRONMENT FROM A POINT SOURCE; FIRST, BASED ON POLLUTANTS CHARACTERISTICS, TEMPERATURE, THICKNESS OF THE OTHER MATERIALS IN THE WATER, WIND BLOW, AND OTHER FACTORS, IT STARTS DISTRIBUTING IN HORIZONTAL VERTICAL DIRECTION. SIMULTANEOUS WITH THIS PHENOMENON, THE FLOW TAKES THE POLLUTION IN WATER MOVEMENT DIRECTION. THIS PHENOMENON WHICH ONLY HAPPENS UNDER THE EFFECT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CURRENTS IS CALLED TRANSMISSION. SINCE, THE EQUATIONS GOVERNING THE FLUID MOTION ARE IN FORM OF NONLINEAR SYSTEM OF EQUATIONS, IT WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO ANALYTICALLY SOLVE THEM; SO, THESE EQUATIONS MUST BE SOLVED NUMERICALLY. FINITE DIFFERENCE METHOD IS ONE OF THE PRACTICAL METHODS FOR SOLVING NONLINEAR EQUATIONS. TAYLOR SERIES IS THE BASIS OF FINITE DIFFERENCE METHOD. IN THE PRESENT STUDY, THE ARTIFICIAL POLLUTION IN ENTRANCE OF A CANAL, HYDRAULIC MODULE, AND UNCOUPLED POLLUTION ARE INVESTIGATED. IN THIS METHOD, EVERY EQUATION IS SOLVED SEPARATELY, AND IT IS SUPPOSED THAT IN EACH TIMESTEP, THE FLUID IS PERDURABLE AND THE SPEED DOESN’T CHANGE. FIRST, THE HYDRAULIC MODULE WAS SOLVED AND THE SPEED IN CANAL WAS OBTAINED. THEN, THE SPEEDS WERE OBTAINED BASED ON THE NEED OF POLLUTION MODULE NETWORK IN AVERAGE SPEED MODULE. AFTER THAT, SPEEDS WERE PUT INTO THE POLLUTION MODULE AND FINALLY THE AMOUNT OF DENSITY WAS OBTAINED IN CANAL LENGTH. WITH THE INCREASE OF TIME STEP, THE ABOVE MENTIONED STEPS REPEAT TILL THE SIMULATION TIME ENDS. MATLAB SOFTWARE WAS USED FOR SIMULATION. THE INVESTIGATION REVEALS THAT THE ALGORITHM OF INNOVATIVE AVERAGE SPEED MODULE HAS HIGH EFFICIENCY SO THAT WITH LITTLE ERROR IN OPERATION, IT HIGHLY DECREASES THE CALCULATION COSTS AND ACCELERATES THE CALCULATION PROCESS FOR CONVENTIONAL COMPUTERS.
