Title

THE EFFECT OF HYDRODYNAMIC FORCES ON STABILITY OF SEABED PIPELINES IN ASALOYEH REGION

Abstract

 THE UNDERWATER PIPELINES ARE EXPOSED TO HYDRODYNAMIC AND HYDROSTATIC FACTORS DUE TO ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION. IN THE PRESENT RESEARCH, TO DESIGN AND ANALYZE THE UNDERWATER PIPELINES, STABILITY ANALYSIS HAS BEEN DONE CONSIDERING WAVE AND CURRENT INDUCED FORCES. THERE ARE LIMITED STANDARDS FOR DESIGNING AND ANALYZING THE UNDERWATER PIPELINES. IN THIS RESEARCH, THE DNV-RPC205 AND DNV-RP-E305 STANDARDS HAVE BEEN APPLIED IN TWO STAGES. THE STUDY AREA IS PLACE IN COASTS OF ASALOYEH PORT AND THE DATA USED IN THIS RESEARCH ARE WAVE AND CURRENT DATA COLLECTED BY PMO BUOY IN ONE YEAR (FROM 2007 TO 2008) IN ASALOYEH REGION. THE HYDRODYNAMIC COEFFICIENT AND DIMENSIONLESS NUMBERS SUCH AS DRAG COEFFICIENT, LIFT, REYNOLDS NUMBER, AND KULGAN CARPENTER AND THE HYDRODYNAMIC FORCES ON PIPELINES IN VARIOUS CONDITIONS HAVE BEEN CALCULATED. SO, OPTIMUM AND SAFE SIZES FOR PIPELINES WERE PRESENTED FOR MINIMIZING DAMAGES IN SEABED PIPELINES, COST SAVING, AND HAVING THE LEAST REPAIRABLE DAMAGES IN ENVIRONMENT. THE RESULTS REVEAL THAT WITH RESPECT TO THE PRESENT CONDITION IN THE REGION, IN PIPELINES FOR DIAGONALS SHORTER THAN ONE METER THE LIFT FORCE IS THE DOMINANT AND FOR DIAGONALS LONGER THAN ONE METER THE INERTIA FORCE IS DOMINANT. REGARDING THE OBTAINED FORCES IN THE MAXIMUM WAVE HEIGHT IN DEEP AREAS, THE CHANGES OF THE LEAST PIPELINE WEIGHT UNDER WATER WAS NOT LINEAR FOR VARIOUS DIAMETERS AND FOR EACH 0.7 METER IT IS ABOUT 2942 KILOGRAM PER METER. INVESTIGATING THE RESULTED DIAGRAMS AND COMPARING THEM WITH EACH OTHER, IT IS RECOGNIZED THAT DESIGNING A PIPELINE WITH DIAMETER BIGGER THAN 0.7 IS NOT APPROPRIATE. IT SEEMS THAT PIPELINES WITH 0.4 METER DIAMETER ARE THE MOST APPROPRIATE SHAPES FOR DESIGNING (JUST CONSIDERING THE PIPELINE WEIGHT) AND IN THESE PIPELINES, COMPARED TO THE 0.5 M DIAMETER, WITH DECREASE OF 0.1 M OF THE PIPELINE DIAMETER, THE PIPELINE WEIGHT DECREASES AT LEAST 100 KILOGRAM PER METER. THE LEAST WEIGHT OF A PIPELINE WITH 0.7 METER DIAMETER HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED IN THREE MODES UNDER THE WATER IN THE REGION AND THE RELATED DIAGRAMS WERE DRAWN AND COMPARED.
