Abstract

 THE AIM OF THIS ARTICLE IS THE SIMULATION OF THE BAFFLED STIRRED TANK WITH 6 BLADES RUSHTON TURBINE THROUGH DIFFERENT TURBULENT MODELS TO INVESTIGATE THEIR PERFORMANCE AND ACCURACY IN PREDICTING THE FLUIDS HYDRODYNAMICS IN TURBULENT FLOW FIELDS. IN ALL SIMULATIONS PISO PRESSURE-VELOCITY COUPLE, PRESTO DISCRETIZATION SCHEME FOR PRESSURE AND THE SLIDING MESH METHOD TO IMPELLER ROTATION MODEL WAS USED. THE EXPERIMENTAL VELOCITY DISTRIBUTION AND TURBULENT KINETIC ENERGY CURVES WERE COMPARED WITH THE NUMERICAL ONES. THE RESULTS CONFIRMED THAT THE LES MODEL IS MORE CAPABLE IN PREDICTING THE FLUID HYDRODYNAMICS IN TURBULENT FLOW FIELDS THAN THE OTHER TURBULENT MODELS USED IN THIS WORK.
