Abstract

 SOFT MODELING OF MULTIVARIATE DATA IS A POWERFUL METHOD FOR THE ANALYSISOF PROCESSES THAT CANNOT BE DESCRIBED QUANTITATIVELY BY A CHEMICAL MODEL. SOFT MODELING USUALLY DOES NOT RESULT IN UNIQUE SOLUTIONS. THUS, THE DETERMINATION OF THE RANGE OF FEASIBLE SOLUTIONS IS IMPORTANT. FOR TWO-COMPONENT SYSTEMS THE DETERMINATION OF THAT RANGE IS WELL-UNDERSTOOD; FOR THREE-COMPONENT SYSTEMS THE TASK IS REMARKABLY MORE COMPLEX. CALCULATION AND VISUALIZATION OF AREA OF FEASIBLE SOLUTIONS FOR ANY MULTIVARIATE DATA SET, IRRESPECTIVE OF OVERLAP OR REALISTIC NOISE LEVEL ARE INVESTIGATED SYSTEMATICALLY IN THIS WORK. A COMPLETELY GENERAL METHOD FOR THE COMPUTATION OF THE FEASIBLE BANDS FOR THE CONCENTRATION PROFILES AND ABSORPTION SPECTRA FOR THREE-COMPONENT SYSTEMS HAS BEEN PRESENTED. THE THREE-COMPONENT SYSTEM IS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE COMPLEX AND DIFFICULT THAN THE TWO-COMPONENT SYSTEM. THE PROPOSED METHOD IS BASED ON RESOLVING FACTOR ANALYSIS (RFA) AND IS AN EXTENSION OF PREVIOUSLY DEVELOPED METHOD FOR TWO-COMPONENT SYSTEMS [1, 2].
