Abstract

 BAYLIS-HILLMAN (BH) REACTION HAVE RECEIVED SIGNIFICANT ATTENTION DUE TO THEIR MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS IN THE SYNTHESIS OF NATURAL PRODUCTS, BIOACTIVE MOLECULES, AND VARIOUS HETEROCYCLIC AND CARBOCYCLIC COMPOUNDS TO PRODUCE SIMPLE C-C BOND. IT IS ALSO USEFUL METHOD AS AN ATOM-ECONOMIC ONE-POT PROCEDURE. IN CONTINUATION OF OUR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCEON VARIOUS REACTIONS OF THIOPYRAN-4-ONE (1) RING , WE WOULD LIKE HERE TO REPORT BAYLIS-HILLMAN REACTION OF 2H -THIOPYRAN-4 (3 H) -ONE SYSTEM BY USING CATALYTIC AMOUNTS OF DBU (1, 8-DIAZABICYCLO [5.4.0] UNDEC-7-ENE) AS ANORGANOCATALYST, UNDER AQUEOUS CONDITION. REACTIONS PROCEEDED IN GOOD TO HIGH YIELDS AT ROOM TEMPERATURE VIA A VERY INEXPENSIVE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY BENIGN PROCEDURE WITH A VERY STRAIGHTFORWARD AND EASY WORKUP. THE STRUCTURE OF THE PRODUCTS IS ASSIGNED BASED ON THEIR SPECTROSCOPIC DATA.
