Abstract

 NOWADAYS, THE SPEED OF PROGRESS IN ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIES CAUSED THE PRODUCTION OF A LARGE AMOUNT OF ELECTRONIC WASTES (E-WASTES). THE INAPPROPRIATE ACCUMULATION OF THESE WASTES CAN POLLUTE AIR AND WATER RESOURCES. RECYCLING IS A REASONABLE METHOD TO PREVENT ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION. THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS (PCBS) ARE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS OF E-WASTES.THE HEAVY METALS LIKE COPPER, LEAD AND TIN AND PRECIOUS METALS LIKE AU AND AG ACCUMULATED IN THESE MATERIALS. DISSOLUTION OF COPPER FROM PCBS BY AMMONIA SOLUTION WAS PERFORMED IN THIS STUDY AND THE EFFECTIVE FACTORS IN DISSOLUTION SUCH AS PARTICLE SIZE, AMMONIA CONCENTRATION, AMMONIA TO AMMONIUM CARBONATE RATIO AND SOLID TO LIQUID RATIO WERE OPTIMIZED. OPTIMUM DISSOLUTION CONDITIONS WERE FOUND AS: PARTICLE SIZE RANGE OF -420 MM, AMMONIA CONCENTRATION OF 1 M, AMMONIA TO AMMONIUM CARBONATE RATIO OF 0.5 AND SOLID/LIQUID RATIO OF 1: 10 G/ML. NEARLY 100% OF COPPER WAS EXTRACTED UNDER THESE CONDITIONS.
