TITANIA NANOPARTICLES ON THE ANTICORROSIVE PROPERTIES OF SILICA-BASED HYBRID COATINGS

Abstract

 ORGANIC-INORGANIC NANOCOMPOSITE PROTECTIVE COATINGS WERE PREPARED ON TYPE 1050 ALUMINUM ALLOY SUBSTRATES USING 3-GLYCIDOXYPROPYL-TRIMETHOXYSILANE (GPTMS) BY SOL-GEL METHOD. THE PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF NANOSIZED TIO2 PARTICLES WERE INVESTIGATED ON GPTMS BASED COATINGS. THE TIO2 PARTICLES WERE DERIVED FROM TETRA-N-BUTYL TITANATE (TBT). POTENTIODYNAMIC SCANNING (PDS) AND 2000 H SALT SPRAY TESTING METHODS WERE USED TO INVESTIGATE CORROSION RESISTANCE OF THE HYBRID SOL-GEL COATINGS. THE PDS AND SALT SPRAY RESULTS DEMONSTRATED THAT THE CORROSION PROTECTION OF HYBRID COATING IS AFFECTED BY TIO2 NANOPARTICLES. THE COATING WITH TIO2 NANOPARTICLES EXHIBITED THE HIGHER CORROSION RESISTANCE (RP=6.629×107 W) THAN COATING WITHOUT TIO2 NANOPARTICLES (RP=2.485×105 W).
