EXPERIMENTAL STUDY AL2O3 NANOPARTICLES AND EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON THE OVERALL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT (U) IN A HEAT EXCHANGER

Abstract

 THE EFFECT OF AL2O3 NANOPARTICLES AND TEMPERATURE ON THE OVERALL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT (U) IN A HEAT EXCHANGER IN LAMINAR FLOW REGIME WAS INVESTIGATED EXPERIMENTALLY. FOR THE TEST, THE VEHICLE COOLING SYSTEM WAS SIMULATED. IN THIS CASE, THE CROSS-FLOW HEAT EXCHANGER CONSISTS OF 34 TUBE WITH ELLIPTICAL CROSS-SECTION (RADIATOR CAR) SHD. NANVZRAT USE IN VOLUME FRACTION 0.15, 0.4 AND 0.65 PERCENT WAS ADDED TO DISTILLED WATER. TO STABILIZE AND PREVENT THE NANOPARTICLES IN WATER AND SEDIMENT TESTING MACHINE, ULTRASOUND MACHINE (ULTRASONIC MIXER) WAS USED. THE FLUID FLOW OF 2.0 M3/HR 0.5 BY A CENTRIFUGAL PUMP INCREASES TO CAUSE THE LAMINAR FLOW REGIME, (900>RENF>200). THE FLUID IS HEATED BY TWO 6000 WATT HEATED TO THE TEMPERATURE OF THE INLET FLUID TO THE HEAT EXCHANGER BY THE CONTROLLER PID VALUES OF 50, 65 AND 80OC OPERATING TEMPERATURE CLOSE TO HIS CAR'S RADIATOR DURING OPERATION. RESULTS SHOWED THAT BY INCREASING AIR VELOCITY AND NANOFLUID OVERALL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT INCREASES, BUT WITH INCREASING TEMPERATURE INPUT NANOFLUID, OVERALL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT DECREASES. THE USE OF NANO FLUIDS WITH A CONCENTRATION OF 0.65 VOLUME PERCENT TO 13 PERCENT OVERALL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT AND THE HEAT TRANSFER RATE UP TO 11.5% COMPARED TO PURE WATER INCREASES.
