CFD ANALYSIS OF SUPERSONIC FLOW OVER VARIOUS ANGLES OF COMPRESSIONEXPANSION RAMP

Abstract

 IN THE PRESENT WORK, AN INVESTIGATION OF FLOW PHYSICS OF THE 3D INTERACTION OF SHOCK WAVE/BOUNDARY LAYER ON A COMPRESSION-EXPANSION RAMP WITH AN ANGLE OF 25O HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT BY MEANS OF REYNOLDS STRESS MODEL (RSM) IN THE FLUENT SOFTWARE. FINE FLOW STRUCTURES WERE ANALYZED THROUGH SHADOWGRAPH CONTOURS WHICH PROVIDE DISTINCTLY PERCEPTIBLE SHOCK STRUCTURES. BASED ON RESULTS FROM ZHELTOVODOV ET AL., 1990, THERE IS GOOD AGREEMENT BETWEEN EXPERIMENTAL DATA AND THE OBTAINED RESULTS WITH THE SAME GEOMETRY, BOUNDARY LAYER CONDITIONS, ETC. RESULTS CONCERNING WALL PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION ARE SEEN TO BE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH EXPERIMENTAL DATA. WE THEN LOOKED INTO THE EFFECT OF CHANGE IN RAMP ANGLE ON FLOW TO CONTROL SHOCK BEHAVIOR. ACCORDING TO THE SIMULATIONS, THE STARTING POINT OF SHOCK, SHOCK STRENGTH, SEPARATION LENGTH AND THE COLLISION ANGLE OF THE SEPARATED AND REATTACHMENT SHOCK WAVES ARE ALL AFFECTED BY THE CHANGE IN RAMP ANGLE.
