Presenting a Model for Succession Management of Organizational Knowledge Workers in the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran ( Case study: Hormozgan province Port and Maritime Authority)

Abstract

 Background and Objectives: A review of the succession literature shows that the design of the succession process is based on the mission of the organization, strategic goals and the requirements of the workforce of the relevant organization. But despite the 100-year history of succession programs, organizations suffer from severe inefficiency in the field of succession, and the expected improvements in performance, accountability, transparency, and service quality of the succession system and elected managers have not occurred. The purpose of this study is to present a Model of Succession Management of organizational knowledge workers in the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran. Due to this innovation, to fill this research gap in scientific environments and Iranian organizations. Methods: The research method has been done in terms of basic purpose and exploratory method. The data collection method is mixed and the data collection tool is an interview and a questionnaire. 306 organizational knowledge workers and staff (in the quantitative section) and 17 experts and specialists in the field (in the qualitative section) collaborated. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential methods through SPSS 16 and Smart PLS software. Results: The results showed that the management Model of Succession Management of organizational knowledge workers in the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran has three dimensions and seven components: general dimensions, policy setting and evaluation of Succession Management system as the main dimensions and organizational factors, individual factors, processing factors, commitment of senior managers to the Succession Management system, identification of key positions, process, and ultimately outcome. It was approved as the components of Succession Management management of organizational knowledge workers in the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran. Conclusion: In this study, according to Smart PLS output, X2 calculated for the whole structure, RMSEA and RMR value less than 0. 8, GFI and AGFI, coefficient of determination and adjusted coefficient of determination, all showed the validity of the Model. By identifying the dimensions, components and key indicators, the optimal Model of Succession Management of organizational knowledge workers in the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran was presented, which can solve the most important challenges. It should be noted that this study answered the main issue raised in the expression of the problem.
