Abstract

SeyyedZia'eddinTabatabaee’, s name has been thoroughly tied with the Coup of February 22, 1921. Following the 100-day period for which he served as Iranian prime minister, representativeness of Yazd at Fourteenth National Consultative Parliament is recognized as the most important political activity undertaken by SeyyedZia'eddinTabatabaee. The present research aims at evaluating SeyyedZia'eddinTabatabaee’, s Performance in the Fourteenth National Consultative Parliament. Used for this purpose were four indices, including absence/presence in the sessions of National Consultative Parliament, questioning the government, commenting on the proposed bills and plans, and delivering opening/closing speeches. The research was performed via library studies based on proceedings of the Fourteenth National Consultative Parliament. Results of the present research indicate that, during the Fourteenth National Consultative Parliament, Seyyed Zia failed to perform acceptably in terms of any of the indices discussed herein. Such that, he was absent in more than 45% of the sessions, with nearly 100% of the absences being unauthorized. Furthermore, he made neither an opening nor a closing speech in none of the 106 sessions in which he was present, but rather solely made comments in two cases where he was, in fact, defending himself. He questioned the then-government only once, and remained silent about all of the proposed bills and plans except for one significant objection against the plans submitted by the then-government prime ministered by Sa’, edMaraghe’, ei.
