Abstract:

In the process of evolving portfolio theory, In order to eliminate the defects and basic assumptions limitation of the traditional model, the concept of downside risk and the Mean-LPM model has been introduced. The Lower Partial Moment (LPM) has been the downside risk measure that is most commonly used in portfolio analysis. Its major disadvantage is that its underlying utility functions are linear above some target return. As a result, the upper partial moment (UPM)/lower partial moment (LPM) analysis has been suggested in the recent researches. The UPM-LPM framework is powerful because it implements the full richness of economic utility theory such as Morgenstern economic utility function and prospect theory. In this study, using by stock market Sector indexes over 3 years period since 2010 to 2012, the mean-variance and UPM/LPM optimal portfolio has been calculated in different degrees of potential and risk aversion. In the next step, the optimal portfolio performance of both model has been measured over second period from 2013 to 2015. This research used MATLAB software for optimizing and analyzing of portfolio selection models. The Jobson-Korkie test has been used to measure the portfolio performance difference between Mean-Variance and UPM-LPM model. It was found that there is significant difference between results of Sharp ratio in Markowitz portfolio and UPM-LPM portfolio, and in the different risk/potential aversion approaches the UPM-LPM portfolio are significantly better than the traditional Markowitz model

Abstract:

Background: The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of job dissatisfaction, and to ascertain the association between job strain and job dissatisfaction and socio-demographic and occupational factors among laboratory staff of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 450 research laboratory staff in 10 faculties and 8 institutes of Universiti Putra Malaysia. Probability appropriate to size sampling and simple random sampling method were used and data were collected via Job content Questionnaire (JCQ) from September 2012 to February 2013. SPSS (version 20.0) software was used for data analysis. Results: A total of 285 laboratory staff with at least one year job tenure participated in this study (Response rate: 91.3%). The finding revealed that 47% of laboratory staff reported job dissatisfaction. The results of this survey showed laboratory staffs with age 35, and less were two-fold more likely to report job dissatisfaction than the older staff (adjusted OR=2.108, 95% CI: 1.241- 3.582). Laboratory staffs with higher toxic exposures 2 times more likely to report job dissatisfaction (adjusted OR=1.887, 95% CI: 1.062-3.353).Conclusion: There is a need to have training plans to increase the knowledge on toxic exposures among younger laboratory staff, which may be helpful to reduce job dissatisfaction among them.

Abstract:

Infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) or Gumboro causes an acute and highly contagious infectious disease characterized by a severe suppression of the immune system (especially humoral) of chickens. This virus is a highly resistant RNA virus of the Birnaviridae family, whose genetic diversity has significant implications for disease manifestations, diagnosis and control. The new genetic classification of this virus is based on the nucleotide sequence of the A (VP2) and B (VP1) parts of its genome. Due to some problems and restrictions in importing vaccines from European countries, the Iranian veterinary organization has agreed in recent years to import Gumboro vaccine and produce it locally. The aim of this study is to investigate the phylogenetic and classification of vaccine strains and their compatibility with circulating viruses. In this study, four types of live attenuated vaccines (IBD07IR, Razi Vaccine and Serology Institute, Iran), B87 (QYH, China), GUMBOHATCH immunocomplex (Hypera, Spain) and MyHatch UPM 93 vaccine (MVP, Malaysia) were evaluated and then the genes encoding for two proteins VP2 and VP1 were amplified by RT-PCR method and sequenced. In brief, the live attenuated vaccines IBD07IR and B87 (Intermediate) and the Gumbohatch vaccine (Intermediate Plus) were categorized as group A1B1 and the MyHatch UPM 93 vaccine (Intermediate Plus) was classified as group A3B2. The results of this study can provide researchers and clinicians with appropriate information in the field of Gumboro vaccines and vaccine selection and can be used in molecular epidemiologic studies in Iran.

Abstract:

Introduction: Infectious bursal disease (IBD) is an acute and highly contagious disease that primarily affects young chickens presented by varying clinical symptoms. Among the available vaccines used to prevent disease outbreaks, live attenuated vaccines are considered as the most common. Aim and method: In this study, the effect of two vaccine types, a live attenuated vaccine, MyHatch UPM93, and a commercial immune complex vaccine, on immunization against IBD were compared whose effects on immune system suppression were also studied. Results: The results indicate that neither vaccine had negative effects on mortality rate. Studying the weight of the bursa of Fabricius (BF) relative to the body weight and bursa Fabricius histopathology in the group vaccinated with MyHatch showed less immune system suppression. Furthermore, MyHatch UPM93 vaccine performed better in generating specific antibodies against IBD, and non-interfering with immunization against Newcastle disease and Avian Influenza. Regarding the presence of the vaccinal virus in bursa Fabricius tissue, no virus genome was detected in the group vaccinated with Immune complex vaccine until the 14th day after the vaccination, unlike the group which was vaccinated with MyHatch UPM93 vaccine. On days 21 and 28 in both groups, an equal percentage of samples (80% and 100%, respectively) were positive, and on day 35, the MyHatch group had a lower percentage of positive samples compared to the immune complex group (60% versus 80%). Conclusion: It is hoped that in future researches, the effects of other vaccines, which are recently imported to Iran, on the immune system will be studied.

Abstract:

Islam has sets of laws, rules, values and norms that ritualistically and symbolically influence both attitude and behavior of Muslim consumers. Therefore Muslims degree of religiosity should moderate their perceptions of advertisements which carry Islamic symbol. To test this moderating effect of religiosity, this experimental study examined the Malaysian Muslims women attitude toward advertisement portraying spokesperson with Islamic symbol of hijab. A total of 120 UPM female undergraduate students participated in four groups of experiment. Participants in each group were exposed to four different advertisements. Three of these advertisements portray a spokesperson without hijab and one advertisement portrays a spokesperson with hijab. Findings revealed that Islamic symbol of hijab significantly influences advertising evaluative efficacy and degree of religiosity positively moderates participants’ attitude toward advertisement, attitude toward brand, and purchase intention. Furthermore, the results revealed that this effect is not contingent upon or interlinked with the type of advertised product.

Abstract:

In order to use an Islamic financial instrument, this paper intends to measure and evaluate negative and positive deviations from target rate of return in investment opportunity evaluation, that leads to presenting an upside potential- adjusted risk measure. This risk measure named Upside Potential Adjusted Risk Measure (ALPM) is generally applicable and provides assumptions of Variance, Downside Risk, LPM and UPM leading to the same results. It adjusts the downside risk of an investment opportunity by using the investors's personal viewpoints and incorporates the probability and the size of upside potential in risk measurement. ALPM, which is applicable in individual security risk measurement and portfolio optimization, calculates risk by downside risk and upside potential.ALPM can solve important paradoxes of decision making, namely the Allais, the Ellsberg and the St. Petersburg Paradox, and is applicable in portfolio optimization in order to maximize the expected rate of return and minimize the upside potential adjusted risk.
