Background & Aim: According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, sleep is a basic need. The quality of sleep highly affects the recovery of patients in coronary care units. This study was conducted to determine patients’ sleep quality and nurses´ documentations in coronary care units.Material & Methods: This study was a descriptive- analysis. Participants were selected with convenience sampling. This Study was performed on 155 patients admitted to the coronary care unit in 2015. Nursing documentations were investigated in 3 consecutive nights. The data collection instruments included a demographic and disease information form, the modified Pittsburgh sleep quality index, the daily sleep form and the patients’ quality of sleep checklist in nursing documentations. The daily sleep form completed by participants and other instruments completed by the researcher. The data were analyzed in SPSS 16 software. Results: Most of the study population had a poor quality of sleep (56.1%) during hospitalization; however, their quality of sleep improved over three nights. There was a significant correlation between daily sleep diary and Pittsburgh sleep quality (P<0.001). Thepatients’ quality of sleep checklist in nursing documentations was more accurate in the first night in cases that patients required an intervention; however nursing documentations in cases that did not require any intervention were not carefully recorded by nurses. Conclusion: Most of the participants in the study had poor quality of sleep on the first night but it was improved over time. However nursing documentations was more accurate in the first night in cases that required an intervention. So nurses in coronary care unitneed to receive more training on the importance of patients’ quality of sleep and how to record the sleep quality in nursing documentations.

Abstract:

Background & Aim: Chronic heart failure, as a progressive and life-limiting illness, is a rampant problem which affects the quality of life of patients. Hence, this study was carried out to investigate the relationship between quality of life and related factors in patients with chronic heart failure.Material & Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with a descriptive-correlational design. In this research, 100 patients with chronic heart failure were selected from Jiroft Imam Khomeini Hospital in 2015. Minnesota Living With Heart Failure Questionnaire(MLHFQ) and demographic questionnaires were used to collect data. The questionnaires were completed in three stages (admission time, discharge time, and one month after discharge). The obtained results were analyzed, using parametric statistical tests including, Pearson correlation coefficient (r), t-test, repeated measure ANOVA, and multivariate regression. The data were analyzed using SPSS (V.21), with the significance level set at (P<0.05).Results: The results showed that the quality of life at the beginning of patients admission, at discharge time, and one month after discharge were 77.4±15.08, 66.96±15.66, 42.87±22.08, respectively. The parametric statistical test in repeated measures over different time points showed significant difference in quality of life. It means that the quality of life was much better a month after discharge in comparison with the quality of life at admission and discharge time. Moreover, a significant relationship was observed between the quality of life and demographic data. Conclusion: Quality of life in patients with chronic heart failure has a relationship with factors such as education, disease background, duration of the disease, age, smoking, marital status and obesity. The last three factors have been more effective on the quality of life a month after discharge. Thus, regarding the importance of these factors, education and follow-up care are highly emphasized.

Background & Aim: Solution- focused brief therapy is among modern approaches in individual, couple and family therapies which focus on finding solutions rather than on problems. The present study was conducted by the aim of investigating the effectiveness of solution focused brief therapy in reducing depression and uplifting marital satisfaction in married women.Material & Method: The present study was a quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest design with control group. The research population consisted of all married women with depression and unsatisfied with marital life who visited Hamyaran-e-Salamat mental center of Ravanshahr, Bojnourd city in the second half of 2014. Among the applicants to participate in the research, 30 women were selected by available sampling method and they were randomly assigned into control and experiment groups. The research tools were the Depression Inventory of Beck and the Enrich Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire which were completed by participants in pre-test, post-test and follow-up stages. Afterwards, the solution-focused intervention was offered to the experimental group for 6 sessions, but the control group received no intervention. Data were analyzed via multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) and repeated measures method by SPSS (v.16) Software. Results: After the posttest and follow-up stages, results suggested a significant reduction in depression and increase in marital satisfaction scores in the experimental group compared to the control group. The findings indicate that the solution-focused brief therapy reduced the rate of depression and increased marital satisfaction among women in the intervention group. The results were persistent in the follow-up stage, as well. Conclusion: The results demonstrated the effectiveness of solution-focused brief therapy in decreasing depression and increasing marital satisfaction. Therefore, conducting interventions based on this therapeutic approach can be effective in reducing psychological problems, such as depression and will improve the marital relationships of clients.
