Abstract:

Inner speech (IS) is an internal speaking, which doesn’t relate to external sound and most people hear it most of the time. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of disruption of IS (DIS) on EEG. EEG recordings were obtained from four subjects who were experts in DIS by single subject method. In spite of opening eyes alpha activity was appeared in DIS. In one subject unusual perception was followed by paroxysmal appearing alpha waves in posterior regions of left hemisphere.

Abstract:

The relationship between thinking styles and identity styles was investigated within contexts of Sternberg's theory of self – government and Berzonskg's model of identity styles. Participants were 239 students (126 male, 113 female) from Shiraz University. According to the research target just functions of thinking style, including legislative, executive and judicial, was measured by Sternberg's and Wagner's inventory. Identity styles were measured by ISI-6G, revised by White and colleagues. According to Berzonsky's model these styles are: informational, normative and diffuse/ avoidant. To determine reliability of measures, Cronbach alpha coefficient was calculated and to examine validity, factor analysis method was used. The findings confirm the relationship between identity styles and thinking styles. The results also showed that each identity style is predicted by a different profile of thinking style.

Abstract:

The present investigation aims at examining the role of self-esteem in help-seeking behavior of students in relation to their achievement-related activities. The sample of the study comprised of 319 boys studying in second grade (Reyazi- physic) high school in Tabriz. The sample of study was selected on a random sampling basis. In the present study, Rosenberg - scale was used to assess the degree of self –esteem, while variables of help -seeking behavior, achievement -related activities and attitudes to help-seeking were measured by questionnaire developed by the first researcher. The data were analyzed with the help of multiple regression and path analysis. The findings revealed that the students, who showed poor performance, keep on using more informal resource of help-seeking, especially peers and friends. Also the path analysis model showed that those with low self -esteem tend to perceive help -seeking behavior as a threat to their confidence. On the other hand, the sense of threat has negative influence on their perception of themselves that causes avoidance tendencies in help-seeking behavior in dealing with problem.

Abstract:

The purpose of the present study was to investigate physical and psychological wife abuse among married women living in Tehran. Study sample (N=1000) consisted of two groups of married women (18-45 years): those who did not refer to domestic courts (n= 800), and those who had problem with their husbands and therefore referred to domestic courts (n=200). Moffitt et al. (1996) Questionnaire was used. Results of the study indicated that psychological and physical wife abuse among subjects in the first group were 87.9 and 47.9 respectively. Psychological and physical wife abuse among subjects in the second group was 99.5 and 91 respectively.  Wife abuse was significantly related to the age of the couples and duration of their marriage. The older the couples and the longer the marriage, the higher the wife abuse. There was a significant negative relationship between education of the couples and wife abuse. The higher the education, the less the wife abuse. The relationship between family income and wife abuse was not significant. Those husbands, who consumed alcohol or drug, abused their wives significantly more than those husbands who did not consume alcohol or drug. Husbands with psychological problems abused their wives significantly more than husbands without psychological problems. Psychological and physical wife abuse among the subjects in the second group was higher than psychological and physical wife abuse among the subjects in the first group.

Abstract:

The present study has been conducted to investigate and compare the Big five factors of personality in violating and non-violating drivers in the city of Tehran.200 violating and non- violating drivers, having driven in Tehran for one year were compared through the big five-personality factors inventory (Persian version) and in terms of the number of traffic violations. The results showed significant differences in five personality factors; ie, extroversion, neuroticism, openness, conscientiousness, religiousness, between violating and non violating drivers so that the mean scores of personality in terms of extroversion and neuroticism were greater in violating drivers than those in non- violating drivers. And, the mean scores of violating drivers were less than those of non -violating drivers in terms of three other personality factors. The results also showed that the neuroticism factor has thepredictive power for traffic violations.

Abstract:

Since the past two decades research on happiness has increased and researchers have investigated the relationship between happiness and personality factors. This research revealed that Extraversion and Neuroticism were the best predictors of happiness. The purpose of present research is to evaluate the relationship between five factors model and happiness among Tabriz University Students. Subjects including 396 students with mean of 21.73 years were selected by stratified random sampling according to sex and fields of study. They completed NEO-FFI and MUNCH. Results showed that all subjects prefer positive emotion to negative emotion significantly, but there are no mean differences between sex and fields of study in happiness. Besides, Pearson correlations revealed that E, A and C have positive and significant relationship and N has negative and significant relationship and finally O has no relationship with happiness. Finally, stepwise regression indicated that two factors of N, E predict 0.417 percent of variance of happiness.
