Abstract

The present study has been conducted to investigate and compare the BIG FIVE FACTORS OF PERSONALITY in VIOLATING AND NON-VIOLATING DRIVERS in the city of Tehran.200 violating and non- violating drivers, having driven in Tehran for one year were compared through the big five-personality factors inventory (Persian version) and in terms of the number of traffic violations. The results showed significant differences in five personality factors; ie, extroversion, neuroticism, openness, conscientiousness, religiousness, between violating and non violating drivers so that the mean scores of personality in terms of extroversion and neuroticism were greater in violating drivers than those in non- violating drivers. And, the mean scores of violating drivers were less than those of non -violating drivers in terms of three other personality factors. The results also showed that the neuroticism factor has thepredictive power for traffic violations.
