Abstract:

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization’s (W.H.O) reports, obesity and overweight are among the most health-threatening problems in many countries, including Iran. Evidence has suggested attentional bias has an important role in dieters’ failure. Also, results from previous studies show that eating style is an important factor in predicting dieters’ success. The purpose of this study was investigating these factors in an Iranian sample.Method: In the present study, food attentional bias (FAB), eating styles, and their interactions were investigated in dieters (N=34) and non-dieters (N=35). The exclusion criteria were bulimia or anorexia nervosa. FAB was assessed using a modified emotional Stroop paradigm. Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ) was used to measure the participants’ dominant eating style. Results: Results indicated that, in comparison with non-dieters, dieters show more FAB, and increases in body mass index (BMI) were associated with increases in the participants’ FAB.  The majority of overweight and obese participants had emotional and restrained eating styles. Conclusion: To increase their success rate, it seems that dieting programs should address the dieters’ dominant eating style and efforts need to be made to reduce their FAB.

Abstract:

Introduction: Psychopathological perfectionism is often correlated with obsessive compulsive eating disorders. The purpose of this study was to investigate the explanatory role of perfectionism in obsessive compulsive features and pathological eating attitude.Method: This study was a Correlational research. A group of 790 university students، using Stratified random sampling method، took part in this research. Participants answered to Obsessive Compulsive Inventory- Revised, Eating Attitude Test, and the Perfectionism Inventory. Data were analyzed using concurrent multiple regression analysis. Results: The results showed that the explanatory role of perfectionism in obsessive-compulsive features is more than pathological eating attitudes. It also showed the highest contribution of maladaptive perfectionism in predicting obsessive compulsive features and pathological eating attitude. Adaptive perfectionism had no significant role in either case. Conclusion: Role of perfectionism in predicting symptoms of obsessive - compulsive، is consistent with its phenomenological feature. Decreasing explanatory role of perfectionism in pathological eating attitudes possibly is related to the nature of perfectionism measurements.

Abstract:

Introduction: In recent decades deficit in executive functions has been investigated as a one of the etiological hypotheses in a wide range of anxiety disorders. The purpose of this study was comparing executive functions in patients with obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) and matched healthy individuals.Method: In this cross–sectional study were evaluated 46 patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder are compared with 46 healthy individual by means of convenient sampling. In this ex-post facto, causal-comparative study, Stroop Color and Word Test, Emotional Stroop, Wisconsin card sorting test (WCST) and continuous performance test (CPT) were used as the research tools. Data were analyzed through Student’s t-test.Results: Finding showed that reaction time significantly lower in OCD group. Furthermore, results indicated statistically significant difference between two groups in Emotional Stroop test (P value and results showed that correct response is more in healthy groups than patient). In continuous performance test omission error in OCD more than healthy group; but to groups was similar in commission and reaction time. In WCST healthy group have better performance in preservation error and correct response. Conclusion: OCD could be considered as a dysfunction of executive functions. The results of this study are discussed on deficits in ability of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder in executive functions such as attention and decision-making.

Abstract:

Introduction: Attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder is a psychiatric disorder that appears in childhood and is the most common neurological disorder in childhood. The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of executive function (EF) training on executive performance and behavioral symptoms of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.Method: This study performed on 6 students with ADHD (2 students per each ADHD subtypes) from Pol Sefid town. CSI-4 scale and Raven’s colored progressive matrices were used to assess behavioral symptoms of ADHD and IQ respectively. We used Persian software of CPT to assess sustained attention, Persian software of Tower of London test (TOL) to assess planning and SNAP-IV scale to assess behavioral symptoms of ADHD. The data were analyzed using a comparison between baseline behavior rates and the behavior rates of treatment phase as well as the Cohen effect sizes. Results: Results showed that computerized EF training led to increased Sustained attention and planning and decreased symptoms of ADHD in all subjects of different ADHD subtypes. Conclusion: This study showed that the use of computerized EF training can reduce ADHD symptoms and improve EF functioning. Therefore, it is recommended to use computerized EF training as complementary method to behavioral and pharmacological treatments.
