Abstract:

Diazinon is commonly used for pest control in agricultural farms surrounding freshwater reservoirs. This study investigated the sublethal toxicity of this organophosphorous pesticide as a pollutant of aquatic ecosystems and its effects on histopathology kidney, spleen and hematological parameters of common carp, Cyprinus carpio. Diazinon was applied at sublethal concentrations of 0.06 and 0.12 mg/L during 10, 20 and 30 days. Compared to the control specimens, fish after a chronic exposure to diazinon had significantly lower erythrocyte, hemoglobin, hematocrit values, leukocyte, lymphocyte, monocyte and basophil, but MCV, MCH and number of neutrophil and eosinophil increased significantly. The histhopathological effects of diazinon on kidney, spleen and gill tissues were examined by light microscopy. Degeneration in tubular epithelium, atrophy of epithelial cells of renal tubules, necrosis of tubules, contraction of glomerulus and expansion of space inside the Bowmans's capsule were observed in the kidney tissues of fish exposed to diazinon. The changes in the spleen were characterized by a significant increase in size, frequency and distribution of melanomacrophage centers and changes of ellipsoid cells morphology.

Abstract:

This study was conducted to determine regional variation in growth parameters of Caspian shad Alosa caspia caspia in southern Caspian basin. Results showed that the largest specimens had 283mm total length and 171.85 g total weight in the southeast region, i.e. 277 mm total length and 145.70 g total weight in central area, 269 mm total length and 138.30 g total weight in the southwest region of the basin. Age of the specimens ranged from 2+ to 5+ in all sampling areas and there were significant differences between observed and back-calculated lengths at ages. There was a positive allometric growth in the population from southeast area, while negative allometrice growth was found in both central and southwest areas of the basin. In all areas, females has a b-value of WLR larger than that of males. Parameters of von Bertalanffy growth function were different between males and females of each area and between the same sexes of different areas. The largest L¥ was found in the southeast area for males and in the central area for females. The highest K of Van Bertalanffy growth equation was observedfor males and the lowest for females of the southeast area of the basin. t0 showed negative values in all areas with the lowest value of -0.531 for females in the southeast area and the highest value of ‑0.145 for males in the central area of the basin. The results showed that there are significant variations in growth parameters of the species in the southern basin of Caspian Sea.

Abstract:

Since increasing the NO3 and NH4 make eutrophication in waterbodies, microalgae tolerance to high concentrations of NO3 and NH4 and their growth in these levels indicate the bioremediation potential of nitrogen-rich wastewaters and produce efficient algal biomass in freshwater environments. To evaluate the tolerance of green algae, Scenedesmus quadricauda to different NO3 and NH4 concentrations, cultivation of S. quadricauda in BBM (Bold Basal’s Medium) were carried out with seven treatments in triplicates (2.9,15, 25, 50, 75, 100 and 150 mM from NO3 and NH4) at 22 °C in laboratory conditions. Results indicated that this species is able to tolerate 75 mM NO3 and 50 mM NH4 concentrations, although the maximum number of algal cells (32.5×105 cell/ml for NO3 and 25.2×105 cell/ml for NH4), highest algal dry-biomass (1.22 mg/ml for NO3 and 1.02 mg/ml for NH4), and the highest specific growth rate (0.098 day-1 for NO3 and 0.082 day-1 for NH4) obtained at 15 mM of NO3 and NH4. Therefore, based on high tolerance to NO3 and NH4 levels by S. quadricauda, this species could be used for waterbodies rich in these components. In addition, growth capability of this species in these high concentrations illustrated the bioremediation potential of nitrogen-rich wastewaters. On the other hand, with cultivation of this alga in 15 mM of NO3 and NH4, maximum algal biomass were obtained, therefore, this concentration could be used for improving of the chemical composition of BBM culture medium.

Abstract:

This study was carried out to survey effects of dietary Phosphatidylcholine levels on growth parameters, survival and liver fatty acid composition of the Caspian salmon (Salmo trutta caspius) alevin with an average weight of 0.8 ± 0.12 g for 5 weeks. Phosphatidylcholine in 4 levels, i.e. 0, 2, 4 and 6 percent were added to diets. Alevin were reared in a recycling system with 20 percent daily water exchange using biofilter and zeolite. Alevin were fed saturated 6 times a day.  Growth parameters of those fed 4 and 6 percent Phosphatidylcholine were significantly different of those fed 0 and 2 % treatments (P < 0.05). Hepatosomatic index (HSI) and viscerosomatic index (VSI) were affected significantly (P < 0.05) by different phosphatidylcholine levels. Changes of fatty acid composition of the liver were similar to those of the diet fatty acid composition, and linoleic acid (18:2n-6), arachidonic acid (20:4n-6) and polyunsaturated fatty acids increased significantly. Survival rate was high in all treatments with no significant difference among them (P > 0.05). Results indicated that phosphatidylcholine has positive and significant effects on growth, nutrition factors and liver fatty acid composition of the Caspian salmon alevin and its optimal dietary level for this size is 4 percent at this stage.

Abstract:

Sperm motility is one of the indicators that is used in sperm quality assessment. This study was conducted to determine the sensitivity ratio of kutum spermatozoa at different concentrations of heavy metals such as copper and cadmium after being released into water. Spermatozoa from four mature fish were exposed to 0, 0.01, 0.1, 1, 10, 100 and 1000 ppm of CdCl2 and CuCl2 and sperm motility percentage and total duration times were compared with control groups (distilled water, 0 ppm). Sperm motility parameters decreased significantly with increase of pollutant concentrations and stopped in 1000 ppm. Over time, with decrease of percentage off motile spermatozoa, their were still sensitive to low concentration. In conclusion, changes of sperm motility influence the reproduction efficiency. Hence, exposure to cupper and cadmium will decrease quality of sperm of kutum in the reproductive season.

Abstract:

Effects of spawning migration times of roach (Rutilus rutilus caspicus) on some spermatological (sperm movement duration, percentage of motile spermatozoa, spermatocrit, sperm density and semen volume) and biochemical parameters (Na+, K+, Ca+2, Mg+2, pH, total protein glucose and cholesterol) were studied in Gorganrood estuary.Spawning migration times divided to 3 periods (February, March, April) and semen was collected from 10 males in each period while they are 3 years old. The results showed that percentage of motile spermatozoa, sperm movement duration and sperm density were different significantly, however spermatocrit and semen volume did not show significant differences during spawning migration times. Calcium, magnesium, potassium and pH showed significant differences between three periods but Na+, total protein, glucose and cholesterol did not show significant differences between February, March and April. In general, specimenrs obtained in March are better than those caught in other months (February and April) in terms of spermatological and biochemical characteristics.

Abstract:

Effect of green tea extract and its natural antioxidant on quality rainbow trout during ice storage was investigated. In the research extraction antioxidant extract green tea performed with water and whole fish was dipped in these solutions prepared of green tea extract (200, 400, 600 ppm) for 90 minutes. During storage period (16 days), spoilage oxidation indices FFA (Free fatty acid), PV (Peroxide) and TBA (Thiobarbituric acid) with interval of 4 days were measured and compared with control treatment. Based on obtained results in all of treatments by passing time the value of spoilage oxidation indices (FFA, PV, and TBA) increased but treatments of dipped in green tea extract in contrast control sample were lower in final storage time. In various levels of green tea extract, 600 ppm treatment were lower than others level in values of FFA, PV and TBA and could more retained oxidation lipid. Based on obtained results using green tea extract in consternation of 600 ppm that by dipping whole fish for inhibiting retardation and lipid oxidation in rainbow trout during storage in ice is suggested.
