Identifying the stressors and effective coping methods will help nurses to manage problems of peritoneal dialysis patients. This cardinal point will confirm the necessity of performing a study on stress in peritoneal dialysis patients and methods of coping with it. Materials & Methods: This is a descriptive analytic study in which 70 peritoneal dialysis patients referred to Emam Reza Treatment Training Center were randomly selected. Inclusion criteria were: adolescents of 14 years of age and older, capable of having awareness of time and place, absence of acute diseases or depression, having physical ability to answer the questions, being on dialysis for at least 6 months. Data gathering tool was a questionnaire containing demographic information, stress scale of peritoneal dialysis patients (PDSAS), Jalowiec coping scale (JCS). Data were analyzed using SPSS. Results: Findings showed that the most common stressors of peritoneal dialysis patients related to frequent replacement (%57.7), increasing need for protein foods (%62.9), prolonged procedure of peritoneal dialysis (%57.1), impatient (%55.7), and decrease of appetite (% 37.1). Study results indicated that in peritoneal dialysis patients psychosocial stressors were more troublesome than physical factors; most of the patients preferred emotive coping methods to deal with these stressors. Conclusion: This research showed that prevalence of psychosocial stress factors are more than physical stressors. Considering the importance of the psychosocial stressors, effectiveness of coping methods and, also, necessity of performing helpful educations we can facilitate coping process of these kinds of patients.

Nurses of ophthalmology departments play important role in promotion of health behaviors.Materials & Methods: This study, conducted in Nikookary Hospital of Tabriz, has a descriptive design and assesses glaucoma patients’ knowledge and practice about their disease and its relationship with demographic characteristics .Data collecting tool was a questionnaire including three parts and the method of gathering information was face to face interview. One hundred patients referred to glaucoma clinic of Nikookary Eye Hospital were selected through “easy sampling method”,. The final analysis of data was done with descriptive and inferential statistical methods and SPSS.Results: 19% of patients had good level of knowledge about their disease whereas %69 had average level and %12 had weak level of knowledge. According to t-test results most of the patients were in good condition. There was a significant difference between the average score of knowledge of married and single patients (P=%028). One way ANOVA analysis demonstrated that patients with high level of education had good knowledge and practice. (P=0.001).Conclusion: The results indicate that those in charge of education should attempt to raise glaucoma patients’ awareness and knowledge and improve the functions of them.

Abstract:

Background & Objectives: Nowadays evidence based practice plays a major role in cure and care. Nursing is not exempted from it and few studies were carried out in this field. This paper studies application of evidence based nursing care principle in older patients with urinary incontinence.Materials & Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental design (pre-post test).30 ones were selected by simple sampling methods for 2 experimental and control groups. Allocation of samples to groups was non-random. Nursing interventions were based on the review of literature in the similar studies on urinary incontinence. Intervention in experimental group was included kegel exercise, bladder training and life style modification and the control group received routine drug therapy. The urinary incontinence condition was evaluated after three months. Results: The assessment of the frequency and amount of incontinence leakage and its effect on life quality showed significant differences between experimental and control groups before and after intervention. Conclusion: The results of study showed that the evidence based nursing care are effective method in senile women with urinary incontinence. The results of this study and the same studies imply that a national clinical guideline should be developed in this field.
