Abstract:

Introduction: The current research was aimed at constructing and validating the Iranian military family health questionnaire. Method: This is a correlational research work. The research population included all military families in Tehran, Iran. The sample consisted of 337 parents of military families in Tehran selected through the purposive sampling method. The instruments used were the Family Assessment Device, the Enrich Marital Satisfaction Scale and the Iranian Military Family Health Questionnaire which was constructed by the researchers. The construct validity of this questionnaire was evaluated by internal correlation and exploratory factor analysis, and its reliability was verified using Cronbach's alpha coefficient and retest after two weeks. Results: The findings revealed that the questionnaire has sufficient reliability and convergent validity. Factor analysis results further showed that this 70-item questionnaire has the 5 marital, individual, parenting, social and spiritual subscales. Discussion: Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the constructed questionnaire can be used for research and treatment purposes in military communities.

Abstract:

Introduction: The purpose of this study is to determine the role of gratitude and forgiveness in predicting the mental health of the Personnel of a Law Enforcement Unit in Iran. Method: This is a correlational descriptive study. The statistical population of the present study included all the male personnel of a Law Enforcement Unit, who were at work in 2017. From among them, a group of 234 subjects was selected using the multistage random sampling method. The research instruments were the Symptom Check List Questionnaire (SCL-90-R), the McCullough and Immunes Gratitude Questionnaire and the Hartland Forgiveness Questionnaire. Results: The results of Pearson correlation showed that there is a significant negative relationship between gratitude and forgiveness, on the one hand, and mental health, on the other, (P<0. 005), which implies that these two variables can predict mental health. Discussion: The findings of this research reveal that gratitude and self-forgiveness and forgiveness of others can predict the mental health of the Law Enforcement Force personnel. This finding can be used to improve the mental health of the Law Enforcement Force personnel.

Abstract:

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of anger management group training on aggression, mental health and happiness in Shahed Junior High School Girls in Tehran. Method: This is an applied quasi-experimental study with a control group and pretest-posttest design. From among the 3600 members of the statistical population, a sample of 350 individuals was selected according to Morgan's table and using the stratified cluster sampling method and administered the aggression test. From among them, 50 individuals with a higher aggression score were selected and the final sample including 30 subjects was selected randomly from among them and was divided into experimental group (n₌ 15) and control group (n₌ 15). The experimental group received twelve 60-minutes sessions of anger management training package based on the cognitive-behavioral approach. The Buss and Perry Aggression Questionnaire (1992), the Goldberg Mental Health Questionnaire (1972) and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (2002) were administered to the experimental and control groups before and after the training sessions. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the data and covariance analysis was used to analyze the data and test the hypotheses. Results: The findings revealed that anger management group training reduced the students' aggression and increased their mental health and happiness. Discussion: Given the findings of this study, planning to teach anger management to students would be a suitable way to reduce these impairments.

Abstract:

Introduction: In recent years, life skills and teaching them have gained importance among different classes. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of life skills training on the happiness of the children of martyrs and Self-Sacrificers in Tehran. Method: The present study is a quasi-experimental research work. The statistical sample of the study included 15 subjects as control group and 15 others as experimental group. The subjects were selected on a voluntarily basis. The subjects in the experimental group participated in life skills training sessions. The interventions included eight 90-minute sessions of group training, and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire was used as the data collection instrument. Results: The results of the research indicated that life skills training has a positive effect on happiness, and the happiness of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group. Discussion: It appears that receiving training in problem solving, decision making and creative thinking skills significantly affects happiness of individuals and helps them to solve the likely problems they face in life.

Abstract:

Introduction: In their interaction with their husbands, disabled veterans’ wives are affected by their husbands’ psychological characteristics and adverse behavioral and cognitive effects, which can seriously affect their psychological flexibility. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on the cognitive flexibility of disabled veterans' wives. Method: In this semi-experimental research with pretest-posttest and control group design, 32 wives of disabled veterans referring to counseling centers in Tehran in 2017 and having low cognitive flexibility were selected through the purposive sampling method and were randomly assigned into an experimental group (n₌ 16) and a control group (n₌ 16). Eight 120-minute sessions of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy was performed for the experimental group. The Cognitive Flexibility Questionnaire (CFI) was used to collect the required data, and the data were analyzed using covariance analysis with moderated pre-test effect. Results: Based on the findings, the research hypotheses related to the impact of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on increasing the cognitive flexibility of disabled veterans’ wives are confirmed, and the disabled veterans’ wives in the experimental group had significantly higher cognitive flexibility than those in the control group in the post-test stage (P<0. 05). Discussion: Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is effective in enhancing the cognitive flexibility of disabled veterans’ wives and increases their cognitive flexibility.

Abstract:

Introduction: The purpose of the present study was to compare cognitive emotion regulation, happiness and distress intolerance in conscripts with high and low risk behaviors. Method: This is a causal-comparative study, and its statistical population consisted of all conscripts (n = 139) serving in a military unit in the west of Tehran. The sample included 60 conscripts selected through the availability sampling method and assigned into two groups: with high and low risk behaviors. The High Risk Behaviors Questionnaire, the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire and the Distress Tolerance Scale were used for data collection. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was used to analyze the data. Results: The results showed that there is a difference between cognitive emotion regulation in the conscripts with high-and low-risk behaviors. Also, there was a difference between the conscripts with high-and low-risk behaviors in distress tolerance. It was further revealed that there was a difference between the conscripts with high-and low-risk behaviors in happiness. Discussion: It can be concluded that conscripts with low risk behaviors have higher cognitive emotion regulation and distress tolerance and more happiness than the other group.
