Abstract

Introduction: The purpose of the present study was to compare cognitive emotion regulation, happiness and distress intolerance in conscripts with high and low risk behaviors. Method: This is a causal-comparative study, and its statistical population consisted of all conscripts (n = 139) serving in a military unit in the west of Tehran. The sample included 60 conscripts selected through the availability sampling method and assigned into two groups: with high and low risk behaviors. The High risk behaviors Questionnaire, the cognitive emotion regulation Questionnaire, the Oxford happiness Questionnaire and the distress tolerance Scale were used for data collection. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was used to analyze the data. Results: The results showed that there is a difference between cognitive emotion regulation in the conscripts with high-and low-risk behaviors. Also, there was a difference between the conscripts with high-and low-risk behaviors in distress tolerance. It was further revealed that there was a difference between the conscripts with high-and low-risk behaviors in happiness. Discussion: It can be concluded that conscripts with low risk behaviors have higher cognitive emotion regulation and distress tolerance and more happiness than the other group.
