Abstract: 

introduction: Student counseling and supervision play an important role to overcome learning problems and to achieve educational goals. the present study is intended to investigate viewpoints of students regarding educational guidance and advice studying at babol university of medical sciences.methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional Survey, viewpoints of 480 students were collected by a questionnaire. the validity and reliability of the questionnaire had been approved before. data were analyzed using spss version 17 software. chi- square and anova tests were administered.results: 61.2% of all participants were female and 38.8% were males with mean age of 21.3±4.0. 37.2% of these students lacked sufficient knowledge and information on how to request from their advisors for help and guidance. half of students (50.3%) reported attendance of advisors and holding routine consultation is inappropriate. advisors made more educational files for females compare to males (p=0.001). no difference observed regarding educational disciplines of the advisors regarding students were dissatisfied with help and guidance received from paramedics and dentistry students in most fields (87.3% and 81.5% respectively).conclusion: It seems that either student has no sufficient information about tasks of advisors and/or advisors may not do their tasks properly. it is recommended the students to be acquainted with advisors’ tasks upon their entrance into the university. training classes for new academics would be helpful.

Abstract: 

introduction: Nutrition is one of the important components of health promotion and disease prevention.  However, nutrition literacy of medical students is unclear. this study aims to determine nutritional knowledge of medical students studying in clinical course of shahid sadoughi university of medical sciences in 2012.methods: In this cross-sectional STUDY, 114 medical students in clinical course of shahid sadoughi hospital were randomly selected. nutritional knowledge questionnaire was completed. each correct answer had one score and wrong answers had no score.results: Of 114 STUDENT, 69 students (60.5%) were female and 45 students (39.5%) were male with the mean age of 24.1±1.5 year. the mean score of students in basic nutrition, nutrition in the life cycle and diet therapy was 4.6±3.2, 6.2±3.2 AND 6.2±3.8, respectively. there was significant association between the score of nutrition course and nutritional knowledge score in all of the fields.conclusion: The average of scores was low. improving the nutrition courses, especially clinical aspects, during clinical education and presence of nutritionist in treatment teams will be helpful.

Abstract: 

introduction: Self-regulation is an important construct in motivation through which the students regulate their learning meta-cognition. self-regulation is one of the most important predictive factors of academic achievement. therefore evaluating academic self-regulation in learners is critical. the aim of this study was to develop validity and to determine the factors structure a self-regulation scale.methods: We validated the 34-items of hong and O’neil self-regulation scale. the scale consisted of four factors: effort, self-checking, self-efficacy, and planning. the score was translated, back translated and checked by several experts. 336 medical students were chosen through multiple steps random sampling and completed the questionnaire. we analyzed the data using spss and lisrel software using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis methods. results: Principle component analysis revealed that self-regulation scale consists of four factors. the scale accounted for %55 of variance. confirmatory factor analysis showed that all of the factors confirmed with data.conclusion: This scale is a valid and reliable instrument in assessing iranian students’, especially medical students’, self-regulation.

Abstract: 

introduction: In order to achieve acceptable quality in educations, the quality of learning should be assessed. opinion of alumni in assessment of the quality of education is important, this study aims to assess the quality of medical education in basic and clinical sciences according to the opinion of alumni of sadoughi university of medical sciences during 2008-2012.method: This cross-sectional study conducted on alumni graduated from 2008-2012. data was collected using a questionnaire which validity and reliability was confirmed. the questions were asked from 183 individuals were interviewed by telephone in 2012.results: Mean satisfaction score of quality of education was 3.86/5 and 3.18/5 for basic and clinical sciences, respectively. the average satisfaction score for regular presence of faculty members in classes was 4.11/5 and 3.98/5 for basic and clinical sciences, respectively. the difference between the two groups regarding the satisfaction from quality of education was not diufferent (p=0.237). However, this difference was significant for satisfaction from regular presence in classes and time spent for education (p<0.001).conclusion: The condition of education in yazd university of medical sciences was satisfactory from the alumni viewpoint and the satisfaction level was higher for basic sciences than clinical science education.

Abstract: 

introduction: Air pollutants sampling course is necessary for the occupational health students. educational aids are essential in promotion of learning. this study aims to evaluate students’ learning in air pollutants sampling course with the aid of an airborne pollutants simulation chamber.method: In a quasi-experimental study that was carried out on occupational health students, all who enrolled in 2012 at shahid sadoughi university of medical sciences were enrolled. the samples were divided into case and control groups. each group consists of 53 participants. traditional method (lecturing) was used in teaching the control group. in addition to the traditional method, educational aid (airborne pollutants simulation chamber) was used to assess difference in learning of the two groups. in addition to students' feedback, students' scores were also judged to assess learning.results: Data analysis revealed that average score achieved by students in the case group was 16.44±2.6 for respirable dust parts, 16.17±2.8 for total dust part and 17.06±2.3 for detector tube. the difference in mean scores between cases and controls was significant in the three practical sessions. the mean difference in acquired scores was significant in the three practical sessions between the case and control groups.conclusion: The occupational health students' learning improved in the air pollutants sampling course using airborne pollutants simulation chamber. therefore, the device can be used as an educational tool to enhance learning in the relevant subjects.

Abstract: 

introduction: In order to codify a better curriculum and develop the quality of education, continuous monitoring dental students' education during their study is necessary. this study was conducted on the course scores of dental students of shahid sadoughi university of medical sciences from 1991 till 2012 on the theory and practical restoration courses. the correlation between these scores was investigated.methods: This was a cross-sectional study which was performed retrospectively on all students who undertook operative dentistry course, theory and practice, during the period. data were collected using the final report of each course which was saved in the records of the education office. demographic data was extracted from the records of the students. data was analyzed by spss using student’s t test, anova and pearson’s correlation test.results: In this study 451 dental students over 22 years were assessed. pearson’s correlation coefficient for test showed that the correlation between "theory course 1" and "practical course " was 0.221 (p<0.001), between "theory 2" and "practical 2" was 0.311 (p<0.001), between "theory 3" and "practical 3" was 0.443 (p<0.001), and between "theory 4" and "practical 4" was 0.379 (p<0.001).conclusion: This study demonstrates a direct and significant relationship between the scores of all theory and practical restoration courses among dental students. it seems that there is a concordance between theoretical knowledge and clinical performance of dental students.

Abstract: 

Introduction: The importance of reproductive health led to establish the MSc in reproductive health program in developed country. In Iran, the program has not been offered yet. The aim of this study was to assess educational needs of MSc program in reproductive health.Methods: This research used Delphi method. Fifteen experts in reproductive health from Iran participated in this study. First, we provided a list of educational needs for every task, then experts confirmed or rejected educational needs and sometimes added new items. In the second round, the experts identified their priorities.Results: The consensus was reached on 165 educational needs that arranged according to the 45 tasks established for MSc of reproductive health before. In terms of priority, all means of importance were over the score of three. To avoid repeating educational needs general across every task, we categorized the tasks that had similar educational needs.conclusion: The reproductive health needs for every society is unique. We noticed cultural, counseling, educational and gender differences. Considering the growth of population in Iran, a local curriculum for this program is needed.

Abstract: 

introduction: Despite increasing of scientific journals number and post graduate students, there is risk of over production of research papers using various well known questionnaires. this study investigate the trend of publishing articles based on two commonly used psychological questionnaires of beck and general health quality (GHQ) in iran and to compare the trend with other parts of the world.methods:This study is a systematic review investigated 412 articles published from 2006-2011 in local and international journals which used beck and GHQ questionnaires. most (248) articles included in this study used beck questionnaire and 146 articles used CHQ. key words searched to find papers in this study were beck, GHQ, general health quality, depression. major local scientific databases including iranmedex, scientific information database and magiran and also international databases including PubMed and science Direct were searched.results: Publication rates for articles using the two uestionnaires are on rise. during 2006-11 number of published articles from beck questionnaires in iran was 2.5 folds more than the united states and 18.5% of the total articles published in the world. considering that iran has about 1.3% of share of medical science publication of the world, those figures are high. furthermore, number of published articles using GHQ questionnaires in the same period was ten times more than the united states and 50% of the world.discussion: Over use of questionnaires in doing and publishing similar studies is a waste of resources. this study recommends that researchers focus more on interventional studies to reduce burden of psychological disorders. research centers and journal editors should also carefully consider similar studies published in recent years before funding similar projects or accepting their results for publication.
