Abstract:

Introduction: One of the stroke complications is hemiplegia, which can cause subluxation of the shoulder joint and reduce the passive range of motion of the affected shoulder, resulting in limited movement. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of static magnet therapy on pain-free shoulder passive range of motion in patients with shoulder subluxation after stroke. Methods: This clinical trial study was performed on 36 patients with stroke (18 in the intervention group and 18 in the control group) referred to Tabassum Stroke Rehabilitation Center in Tehran in 2016. Neodymium magnetic shoulder support with an intensity of 1500 gauss was used in the intervention group, and non-magnetic shoulder support was used for the control group. A goniometer measured Pain-free passive range of motion (abduction) of the (shoulder with subluxation) under the supervision of an occupational therapist. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 18 using descriptive and inferential statistical tests. The significance level was considered 0. 05. Results: After magnet therapy, the mean score of range of motion in the intervention group increased significantly (0. 023). Post-test comparison between the intervention and control groups showed that the mean score of range of motion was higher in the intervention group, but this difference was not statistically significant. Conclusions: Magnet therapy as a complementary, low-cost, and safe treatment with an increasing range of motion without shoulder pain can help improve individual activities and prevent complications. Further studies on the effectiveness of magnet therapy in improving the range of motion are recommended.

Abstract:

Introduction: Attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder is a pervasive pattern of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Its prevalence in boys is three times more than girls and comorbid with many disorders, including anxiety. Therefore, the present research aimed to determine the effect of yoga education on anxiety disorders in patients with attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder. Methods: This study was quasi-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design with the control group. The research population was male primary school students with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder of Zahedan city in 2018-19 academic years. Among students suspected of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, the number of 40 people after reviewing clinical interviews by a psychiatrist and inclusion criteria to study were selected by purposive sampling method and randomly replaced into two equal groups. The experimental group received the yoga education for 16 sessions of 45 minutes (two sessions per week), and the control group was placed on a waiting list for education. The research instruments were the children’ s intelligence test and the children’ s anxiety scale. The data were analyzed using chi-square, independent t, and multivariate analysis of covariance in SPSS-23 software. Results: The findings showed that the experimental and control groups did not significantly differ in age and education level (P > 0. 05). Besides, the groups in the pre-test phase did not have a significant difference in terms of anxiety disorders, including panic attack and agoraphobia, separation anxiety, social phobia, physical injury fears, obsessive-compulsive and generalized-overanxious anxiety (P > 0. 05). Still, there were significant differences in terms of all anxiety disorders (P < 0. 001). In other words, yoga education reduced anxiety disorders, including panic attacks and agoraphobia, separation anxiety, social phobia, physical injury fears, obsessivecompulsive and generalized-overanxious anxiety in patients with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (P < 0. 001). Conclusions: The results showed the effect of yoga education on reducing anxiety disorders in patients with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. As a result, planning to use yoga education is essential in children, and clinical psychologists and therapists can use yoga education to reduce anxiety disorders in children.

Introduction: Patients with asthma experience high levels of stress. Asthma is a significant health problem in most parts of the world. Psychological therapy methods can play an essential role in reducing health-related disorders such as worry, rumination, and asthma control. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of metacognitive therapy on worry, rumination, and asthma control in patients with asthma. Methods: This study was quasi-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design with the control group. The study population was male patients with asthma referred to specialized clinics in the private sector of Urmia city in the 2019 year. Several 24 patients, after reviewing the inclusion criteria, were selected by purposive sampling method and randomly with lottery replaced into two groups of experimental and control. The experimental group received ten 90-minute sessions (one session per week) of the metacognitive therapy, and the control group did not receive any training. Data were collected by questionnaires of worry and rumination and asthma control test and analyzed in SPSS version 19 software. Results: The findings showed that the experimental and control groups did not significantly differ in age, marriage, education, and duration of illness (P > 0. 05). Also, based on every two groups in the pre-test phase did not significant difference in terms of worry, rumination, and asthma control (P > 0. 05), but in the post-test stage, there were substantial differences in terms of all three variables (P < 0. 001). Also, the metacognitive therapy led to decreased worry and rumination and increased asthma control in patients with asthma (P < 0. 001). Conclusions: The results indicated the effectiveness of metacognitive therapy on decreasing worry and rumination and increasing asthma control. Therefore, planning to use metacognitive treatment and other therapies is essential to improve healthrelated features in patients with asthma.

Introduction: The prevalence of aging and chronic psychiatric disorders is increasing. Older people hospitalized are at risk of malnutrition. In this study, the nutritional status of the elderly living in a psychiatric hospital was investigated, and also related factors were extracted. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2018. One hundred and one older adults over 60 years old in Razi Psychiatric Hospital in Tehran were selected using convenience sampling. Data were collected using a demographic information questionnaire and the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA). SPSS software version 21 and Chi-square test were used to analyze the data. Results: Most of the elderly were in the age range of 60 to 75 years, and 51. 5 percent were female. At-risk and malnourished status, the average prevalence was 22. 8%, 59. 4%, and 17. 8%, respectively. There was a significant relationship between education level, dental status, aspiration, balance status, the experience of an acute disease or stress in the last three months, and the level of physical activity with the nutritional status of the elderly (P<0. 05). Conclusions: More than three-quarters of the elderly were malnourished or at risk of malnutrition. Therefore, it is necessary to take appropriate measures to improve the situation. In this regard, the formulation and implementation of interventions following the associated factors extracted in this study will be helpful.

Abstract:

Introduction: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is among the most prevalent medical-psychological diseases in children. Finding treatment methods to improve these individuals is very important, scientifically. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of motor games by Montessori education theory on the electrical activity of muscles in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder during walking. Methods: This study was a clinical trial. 30 boys with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder were randomly divided into control (number = 15, age: 8. 1 ± 0. 4 years) and experimental (number = 15, age: 8. 1 ± 0. 5 years) groups. Before and after 12 weeks, electromyographical activities of selected muscles during walking were recorded by the electromyography system. Exercise protocol includes motor games by Montessori education theory for 12 weeks (3 sessions per week). Statistical analysis was done by two ways ANOVA with repeated measures. Results: During the loading phase, the results demonstrated that the frequency content of tibialis anterior (P=0. 041) and vastus lateralis (P = 0. 041) muscles was lower during the post-test than that pre-test in the experimental group only. During the mid-stance phase, the findings showed that the frequency content of gluteus medius muscle was lower during the post-test than that pre-test in the experimental group only (P = 0. 047). Conclusions: The reduction of muscular frequency content in the present study after training is associated with improved gait efficiency. Therefore, using this exercise protocol was recommended for boys with attention/hyperactivity disorder.

Abstract:

Introduction: Anxiety is one of the most common psychological disorders that cause problems in emotion regulation and behavioral inhibition. One way to improve parents’ psychological characteristics with psychological disorders, including anxiety, is mindful parenting education. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of conscious parenting education on emotion regulation and behavioral inhibition in parents with anxious children. Methods: Present study was semi-experimental with a pretest and post-test design with the control group. The research population was parents with anxious children of Larestan city in the year 2019. Several 40 people were selected by the available sampling method and randomly replaced into two equal groups (each group of 20 people). The experimental group trained eight sessions of 90 minutes with the mindful parenting method, and the control group didn’ t receive any education. The research instrument was the Spence & et al. preschool anxiety Scale (PAS), Garnefski & Kraaij emotion regulation questionnaire (ERQ), and Gladstone & Parker behaviorally inhibited temperament style questionnaire (BITSQ). Data were analyzed with statistical tests and appropriate software. Results: The findings showed that the experimental and control groups didn’ t significantly differ in terms of education, age, and the number of children (P>0. 05). Also, the groups in the pretest phase didn’ t have a significant difference in terms of positive and negative emotion regulation and behavioral inhibition (P>0. 05). Still, in the post-test, a phase has a substantial difference in all three variables (P<0. 001). In other words, mindful parenting education led to increased positive emotion regulation and decreased negative emotion regulation and behavioral inhibition in parents with anxious children (P<0. 001). Conclusions: The results indicated the effectiveness of mindful parenting education on improving emotion regulation and behavioral inhibition in parents with anxious children. Therefore, using the aware parenting education method and other educational methods suggested improving psychological characteristics, especially emotion regulation and behavioral inhibition in parents with anxious children.
