Abstract: 

Purpose: To investigate the characteristics of misleading metrics and identify the extent to which Iranian journals use such indicators. Methodology: Charctrisitcs were harvested form th eliterature. Then, 410 Iranian journals using such metrics were identified from the misleading metrics websites. Data analysis was conducted using Microsoft Excel. Findings: Sudden disappearance from the web, large number of indexed journals, ambiguous and non-scientific methodologies, lack of accurate contact information, failure to notify about the scientific and administarive staff, charging journals for the calculation of metrics and conducting the evaluation in a short period of time were common. The name and information of 410 Iranian journals were listed in the website of 23 misleading metrics, 49 accredited by The Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (MSRT) and 101 titles accredited by The Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education (MHME) mentioned at-least one misleading metric in their websites. Out of medical science journals 56% are affiliated with the medical science universities and institutions. Conclusion: Utilizing misleading metrics negatively affect the reputation of scientific journals. That put them at the rist to be listed as as predatory journals. Editorial boards are advised to avoid being indexed in misleading metrics and focus on reputable information and citation databases.

Abstract: 

Purpose: To review quality models and approaches to digital library performance. Methodology: This article is an overview article. The library method is used by searching and retrieval tools on the web to collect scientific and research documents in this field. As the literature related to the measurement of the quality of digital library services, including research and review, was searched on the scientific databases of Science Direct, Gesture, Emerald, Scopus and Google Scholar, during the years 2000-2018. The articles were selected based on qualitative criteria based on purpose, evaluation and final articles. Of the 66, 735 original articles retrieved, 18 articles had qualitative criteria. Endnote software has been used to integrate search results. To validate the results, a specialist was used other than the research team. Findings: A number of approaches have been suggested in the literature for evaluating digital libraries. The performance of digital libraries is a qualitative assessment of the functionality of the digital libraries as a combination of three general categories of Usability, functionality and accessibility. The results show that research carried out in the main dimensions of digital library service quality assessment is in the dimension of Usability and accessibility with a frequency of 33% and then the function with a frequency of 28%, and in the sub component of reliability dimension with percentage The prevalence of 38% has the highest frequency, and privacy with a frequency of 16% has the lowest frequency, which indicates the vacuums and dispersion of research done in this direction. Conclusion: A combination of three indictors, ie Usability, functionality and accessibility serve best to for evaluating the performance of in digital environments.

Abstract: 

Purpose: Turkish proverb dictionaries published in Turkish speaking regions of Iran are evaluated to explore to the extent they meet the criteria of reference works. Methodology: The list of books in the subject published in Iran was prepared by searching in the online catalog of the National Library of Iran. Thirty-four titles were identified an examined carefully using a researcher-made checklist based on the criteria proposed in the LIS literature for reference works. Findings: Overall, the titles examined failed to meet the criteria. Problems include the lack of user guides, lack of cross-references, lack of detailed endbook indexes, and lack of unstructured entry contents. Conclusion: Preparing a handbook for future authors and greater involments of the academics in preparing such works are proposed.

Abstract: 

Purpose: Introducing recognition systems and retrieval systems for Farsi printed document images and categorizing conducted researches with identifying strengths and weaknesses points of each category and presenting a retrieval system for Farsi printed document images in a new way. Methodology: This paper is an applied research. An application designed and implied for Farsi printed document images retrieval. A new method in segmentation approach presented and implemented. A database including 50 Farsi documents scanned in 5 fonts provided for training and testing levels. Half of this database is used for training and other half for testing. Findings: Persian printed document image recognition and retrieval systems follow one of three approaches: based on segmentation, based on sub-word shape and hybrid approach. The first approachhas received less attention dueto specific challenges. In this paper a system based on segmentation proposed and implemented and the results presented. Conclusion: Results show that proposed system is anuseful method to Implement recognition systems and retrieval systems for Farsi printed document images.

Abstract: 

Purpose: To explore, analyze, validate the merits of the SEO Entrepreneurship Questionnaire for Knowledge and Information Science professionals. Methodology: The sample size estimation and control for this survey were determined using Morgan table and simple random probability sampling. Based on the first extracted competencies of entrepreneurship in the field of SEO as a content analysis construct, a researcher-made questionnaire was developed using a web-based questionnaire. Face validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by experts in the field. The reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed by Cronbach's alpha test. Findings: The results showed that the six categories include "basic IT skills", "regular or organic SEO", "external site SEO", "paid SEO or click", "website design and management tools" and "value added of Knowledge and Information Science in SEO field" were the main influencing variables for evaluating SEO entrepreneurship competencies for Knowledge and Information Science graduates. Conclusion: Findings can be used to study, analyze and revise Knowledge and Information science topics in search engine optimization.

Abstract: 

Purpose: Knowledge management maturity is measured based on Siemens model and solutions for improvement are recommended. Methodology: 100 NLAI employees evaluated the stage of the organization’ s maturity for KM by responding to a researcher-made questionnaire. Findings: All of the components of knowledge management maturity except education and training were below the average. Education and training was at level five. The components of leadership, culture, and information technology were at level two, whereas the components of rewards and incentives, recording employees' experiences, application of knowledge, staffs' skills and management are at level one. Access to knowledge and experiences has not been implemented in the organization. Overall maturity was at level one.

Abstract: 

Purpose: To explore the impact of information seeking behavior of theses indexers to meet their information needs. Methodology: 35 indexers at the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) and the Iranian Research Institute for Information Science and Technology (IRANDOC) composed the statistical population. A Likert scaled questionnaire was used for data collection. SPSS software was used for data analysis. Findings: Information seeking behavior of indexers meets their information needs in 7 components, not for "using sample documents" with a (mean lower than average: 2. 66). The total mean of the 8 components studied was 3. 63 (above the average). The research hypothesis is confirmed as the overall mean exceeds 3 on Likert scale. Conclusion: Respondents have sufficient expertise and experience. Their information-seeking behavior fulfills a high level of information needs at various stages of indexing.

Abstract: 

This article introduces MarcEdit software. MarcEdit is a metadata editing software suite used primarily to create and manipulate MARC records. Originally developed by Terry Reese in 1999 for a major database cleanup project at Oregon State University. MarcEdit is a metadata editor: a suite of tools designed around the specific types of metadata currently in use by libraries. The tool has grown to include the capacity to create, edit, and transform much of the non-MARC metadata used by libraries. This article attempts to show some of the important features of this software.
