Abstract:

Background and Objective: Patients with myocardial infarction need to receive self-care ability. The present study aimed to determine the effect of post-discharge education and follow-up on self-care behaviors of patients with myocardial infarction. Materials and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 116 patients with myocardial infarction were selected via the convenience sampling method and randomly assigned to the two groups of control (n=58) and intervention (n=58). In the first visit, the self-care questionnaire was completed by patients with myocardial infarction in both groups. In the intervention group, a face-to-face training session was initially held. Thereafter, they were followed up via phone twice a week in the first month and once a week in the second month. Subsequently, after four weeks and at the end of the intervention(i. e., at the end of the 8th week), the self-care questionnaire was completed again by both experimental and control groups. The data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 23) using descriptive statistics, as well as Fisher's independent and accurate t-tests. Results: The mean self-care score in the intervention group increased by 35. 29 and 44. 10 one month and two months after training, respectively, compared to discharge time. The LSD post hoc test results demonstrated that these differences were statistically significant (P<0. 001). Based on the chi-square test, a statistically significant difference was observed between the frequency distribution of patients in the control and intervention groups one month and two months after the intervention in terms of self-care. Conclusion: Due to its availability, telephone follow-up can be used to track the training provided to patients.

Abstract:

Background and Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the level of anxiety in patients with diabetes and educating patients in this field can be an appropriate method to reduce their level of anxiety. The present study aimed to determine the effect of patient education through social media on the COVID-19-related anxiety in patients with diabetes. Materials and Methods: The present single-blind clinical trial was conducted at the teaching hospitals of Zanjan, Iran in 2022. A total of 113 diabetic patients were selected using convenience sampling and then divided into two groups of experimental (n = 58) and control (n = 55) by simple random allocation. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and Corona Disease Anxiety Scale (CDAS). Training related to COVID-19 was provided to the intervention group at a two-week interval, while the control group only received routine care. Data were entered into SPSS software (version 26) and then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Patients in both groups were homogeneous in terms of demographic and clinical characteristics (P >0. 05). A statistically significant difference was observed between the mean scores of anxiety in the intervention group at two measurement points before and after the intervention (P <0. 05). However, the difference in the mean score of anxiety failed to be found significant between the two groups after the intervention (P >0. 05). Conclusion: Educational intervention through social media slightly reduces COVID-19-related anxiety in patients with diabetes. Therefore, social media is suggested as a convenient and accessible method to educate patients on Covid-19.
