Introduction: Adherence to dietary and fluid-intake restrictions is an important factor in the treatment of patients with chronic renal disease. Using intervention strategies such as patient education and cognitive–behavioral therapy can improve adherence to dietary and fluid restrictions in hemodialysis patients. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of cognitive-behavioral intervention on adherence to dietary and fluid-intake restrictions in hemodialysis patients.Method: This clinical trial conducted in Emam Reza and Valiasr Hospitals in the year 2013. Then 70 patients aging from 20 to 60 years recruited randomly into the study and were assigned into two groups: intervention (N=35 on even days) and control (N=35 on odd days). In the intervention group, cognitive-behavioral process performed after the following six steps: 1- Identifying the problem, 2- Creating confidence and commitment, 3- Increasing awareness of behavior, 4- Developing and implementing the action plan, 5- evaluation of the planed design, 6- Maintaining the desired behavior and prevention of undesirable one. Adherence to dietary and fluidintake restrictions were assessed by using self-report questionnaire, in two stages (pretest and post-test). Data analysis was performed by SPSS software version 16 and independent t-test. Significant level of study was 0.05.Results: Before the test, there was no significant difference in terms of adherence to diet (p=0.47) and fluid restriction (p=0.43). At post-test, significant differences were observed between the two groups in terms of adherence to dietary (p<0.001) and fluid restriction (p<0.001).Conclusion: Cognitive-behavioral intervention could be used in designing an Individualized Educational Program for better adherence to the treatment regimen in hemodialysis patients.

Introduction: Education is essential for obtaining a better glicemic control in patients with diabetes. One of the most effective factors affecting the quality of education is the method selected for education. On the other hand, education of family members of such patients facilitate metabolic control. The purpose of this study was to compare the impact of education based on the empowerrment model and family-center empowerrment model on knowledge and metabolic control of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Method: This is a clinical-trial study conducted in 2012 in which 153 patients with type 2 diabetes were randomly assigned into three control, patient-centered intervention, and family-centered intervention groups. Before the intervention and three months after that, the HbA1C test was conducted and the knowledge questionnaire was completed by the samples. Patient-centered empowerment and family-centered empowerment educational interventions conducted in the two interventns groups. Routine education was conducted in the control group. Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: No significant differences were noticed in demographic inerventions between the groups before the intervention (p>0.05). Moreover, no significant difference was noticed between patients’ knowledge and the level of HbA1C in the groups (p>0.05). A significant difference was found between these two factors after the intervention (p<0.001). A significant difference was reported between knowledge and the level of HbA1C in the intervetion groups in comparision with the control group (p<0.05). While no significant difference was seen in the level of HbA1C between the intervention groups, the reduction of the level of HbA1C was more in the familycentered intervention group in comparison with. patient-centered empowerment group. Conclusion: Patient-centered empowerment and family-centered empowerment educational interventions have positive effects on metabolic control. Therefore, the participation of family members in the management and control of diabetes is recommended.

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are the most common causes of death worldwide. Despite pharmaceutical therapies, coronary artery bypass graft surgery continues to be the first and best treatment strategy. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of peer education on anxiety in patients candidated for coronary artery bypass graft surgery.Method: In this randomized control trial study, 60 patients who were candidate for coronary artery bypass graft surgery in Shariati and Imam Khomeini hospitals in Tehran were recruited using the convenience sampling method. The patients were assigned randomly into two control and intervention groups. Patients’ anxieties in all patients were measured using the Spielberger state-trait anxiety inventory in the admission day, five days and four weeks after surgery. The control group received routine education and the intervention group was trained by their peer. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze data. Results: Anxiety scores in both groups were not different in the admission day (p=0.8). Also differences in mean anxiety scores between the groups before surgery, five days and four weeks after surgery were statistically significant (p<0.001).Conclusion: Peer education to patients who are candidate for elective coronary artery bypass graft surgery can reduce anxiety. Therefore, it is recommended that, this educational approach used in the cardiac surgeries ward.
