Abstract:

Background: Iron deficiency anemia is one of the most common health and nutritional problems in the world. Iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women can lead to low birth weight and preterm birth. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of anemia and identify its related factors in the pregnant women referring to health and treatment centers of Bojnurd in 2014.Methods: This descriptive, analytical study was conducted on 515 out of 2073 pregnant women selected through multi-stage sampling. The study data were gathered from the household records in health and treatment centers of Bojnurd using a checklist. In this study, anemia was defined as hemoglobin less than 11. The data were entered into the SPSS statistical software, version 16 and were analyzed using chi-square test and correlation coefficient. Results: The participants’ ages ranged from 15 to 43 years, with the mean age of 26.25 years. The prevalence of anemia based on 6-10 weeks and 26-30 weeks hemoglobin levels was 4.8% and 24.4%, respectively. This measure was obtained as 3.2% and 9% based on 6-10 weeks and 26-30 weeks hematocrit levels, respectively. Anemia was significantly associated with mother’s occupation, number of pregnancies, number of children, type of previous births, mother’s weight in the first care, mother’s Body Mass Index (BMI), underlying diseases associated with anemia, mother’s age in the first pregnancy, and the interval between the last and present pregnancies (P<0.05).Conclusion: The study results showed that the prevalence of anemia was somewhat acceptable. Yet, anemia is a preventable condition and pregnant women are at risk of this disease. Thus, it is necessary to focus on prevention programs, education, prenatal care, nutritional counseling, and iron supplementation during pregnancy to reduce the prevalence of anemia.

Abstract:

Background: Job stresss is among the common problems in workplaces. The effort-reward imbalance model shows that uneven relationship between effort and reward leads to stress, which results in negative health outcomes in long term. The present study aimed to assess job stress measured by the effort-reward imbalance model and mental health in the nurses working in government hospitals of Ilam. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 154 nurses working in government hospitals of Ilam in 2013. The data were collected by General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) and Effort Reward Imbalance (ERI) questionnaires. Then, the data were entered into the SPSS statistical software, version 20 and were analyzed using T-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Results: The majority of the nurses (46%) had a desirable status of mental health. On the other hand, 70.15% of the nurses suffered from imbalance in the effort-reward model (job stress). The results showed a significant positive correlation between mental health and job stress (r=0.49, P=0.01). Also, significant correlations were observed between job stress and age (r=0.35, P=0.01), working experience (r=0.34, P=0.01), and weekly working hours (r=0.30, P=0.01).Conclusion: Considering the positive relationship between mental health and job stress, administrative measures, social supports, improvement of working conditions, and necessary training with regard to dealing with problems are required to reduce, control, and prevent emotional reactions in nurses.

Abstract:

Background: Evaluation of academic libraries is an important step towards discovering their weak points and improving their efficiency. This study aimed to evaluate Golestan University of Medical Sciences libraries compared to the standard of Iranian academic libraries. Methods: This applied study was conducted by comparative survey method in Golestan University of Medical Sciences in 2015. The study population included 5 libraries of Golestan University of Medical Sciences. The study data were gathered using a researcher-made questionnaire that was extracted from standard of Iran’s academic libraries. The validity of the questionnaire was approved by the faculty members and its reliability was confirmed by Cronbach's alpha of 0.78. After all, the data were presented through tables and graphs using Excel software. Results: The findings of this study showed that the libraries of Golestan University of Medical Sciences contained 46826 resources, comprising 8.75% of the required standard resources. Besides, 12 human workforce worked in these libraries none of whom was professional in this field. Moreover, the study libraries were matched with the standard of Iran’s academic libraries regarding resources by 8.75%, human workforce by 31%, and space by 54%.Conclusion: The study libraries were not appropriately matched with the standard of Iran’s academic libraries. This can be improved by creation of a central academic library, renewal of the organizational structure according to the standard of academic libraries, and employment of professional workforce.

Abstract:

Background: Today, low back pain is a major problem worldwide that threatens the health and lives of people in all professions. Military staff are at a greater risk of low back injuries due to their occupational status. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the prevalence of low back pain and its correlation with Body Mass Index (BMI), functional disability, and quality of life in military staff. Methods: This descriptive, correlational research was conducted on 200 military staff from a training center in Isfahan selected through convenience sampling. Low back pain, functional disability, and quality of life were measured using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Oswestry Functional Disability Questionnaires’ (ODQ), and World Health Organization Quality of Life questionnaire, respectively. Then, the data were analyzed using descriptive (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Pearson’s correlation coefficient). Results: The study findings revealed that 96% of the military staff had different degrees of low back pain. The results also showed significant correlations between low back pain and BMI (r=0.49), functional disability (r=0.55), and quality of life (r=-0.44).Conclusion: The study findings showed that a large number of the staff had different degrees of low back pain. Therefore, comprehensive investigation and provision of the ground for modification of physical activity patterns are essential among military staff.

Therefore, this study aimed at determining patients’ satisfaction with physiotherapy services in clinics of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2013.Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 183 patients selected through simple random sampling from the clinics affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2013. The patients completed a standard questionnaire. Then, student t-test, ANOVA, and correlation test were used to assess the relationship between the study variables and patient satisfaction. Results: In this study, the mean score of patient satisfaction was 4.75, indicating the patients’ high level of satisfaction with physiotherapy services at the clinics of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Besides, the highest satisfaction level was related to the ethical dimension with the mean score of 4.834. The results showed no significant relationship between patient satisfaction and ethical considerations, timing and programming, and suitable costs. However, a significant association was observed between quality of services and patient satisfaction. Conclusion: This study showed that quality of services was the most important factor that had a direct impact on patient satisfaction. Thus, continuous assessment of quality of services and patients’ satisfaction is recommended to be performed in both public and private centers.
