Background and Aim: Estimating the maximal aerobic capacity in humans can be used to establish the proportionality between the worker and work physiology. This study was conducted to determine VO2-max and its associated factors among male workers of industrial sector of Sanandaj city.Method: To conduct this study, 200 healthy and non-smoking male workers were randomly selected. Maximal aerobic capacity (VO2-max) was measured by Tuxworth & Shahnavaz method. T test and one way ANOVA test were used to examine the relationship between qualitative variables and VO2max mean and quantitative variables and VO2-max mean, respectively. The stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was used to build the best model. Results: According to results, workers’ maximal aerobic capacity mean was estimated to be 2.92±0.34 Lit/M. The results showed that there was association between VO2-max and weight and marital status while no association was found between VO2-max and height, BMI, age, education level, shift working, job satisfaction, exercise per week and fatigue. Conclusion: Weight and marital status are the factors affecting the maximal aerobic capacity.

Abstract:

Background and aim: Iodine deficiency accounts for a group of diseases such as Endemic goiter, hypothyroidism, Kirtinism and congenital anomalies. This study was carried out to monitor the national program for preventing iodine deficiency in 8-10 year old students in 1392 in Torbat haydareyeh city.Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional survey, 487 students of both sexes, aged from 8-10 years were selected from urban and rural areas through cluster sampling. Urine samples were obtained and urinary iodine measured based on cholorimetery and acid digestion related to guidelines of Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism.Findings: The urinary iodine excretion median in evaluated students was 21 micrograms per deciliter and this amount in 62% population was between 10-30 micrograms per deciliter. Urinary iodine median of rural and urban students was 22 and 20 micrograms per deciliter, respectively that there was significant difference between these groups. In addition the urinary iodine median levels in boys and girls were 20 and 21 micrograms per deciliter that there was no statistically significant difference. Urinary iodine median in different regions are not the same and there was no significant difference in different regions. Findings of this study show that the urinary iodine median in students is desirable and higher than the national average. Conclusions: In this study, the urinary iodine excretion median is 20 micrograms per deciliter which indicates the absence of iodine deficiency in Torbat. The important issue in this study is that despite increasing urinary iodine median among the students as iodine deficiency correction index, urinary iodine median in 20% of students is less than 10 micrograms per deciliter. Therefore it is necessary to educate families for using food sources containing iodine such as eating fish at least twice a week and using refined iodized salt to reduce undesirable amounts of urinary iodine median.

Abstract:

Background: Malaria is one of the most serious diseases which threats people’s health in different parts of world. It’s one of the main infectious diseases in developing world, which accompanies with enormous socio-economic burden. This study is aimed to investigate the epidemiologic features of Malaria cases in Konarak since 2007 until 2011.Materials And Methods: This descriptive Survey investigates malaria-related factors during a 5 years period of time based on information extracted from the monthly and quarterly Malaria reports to Core of Malaria at Konarak’s Health Center by peripheral health centers and health houses. Results: Totally among 1250 malaria cases, 69% were incoming passengers. The total number of malaria cases has been decreased in 2011 compared to the 2007. Falciparum cases have been decreased significantly from 31 case in 2007 to 4 case in 2011. 53% of cases was diagnosed by the health staff which indicates the effectiveness of Malaria screening and surveillance program. This significant decline can be attributed to the improvement in the diagnosis and treatment of malaria, distribution of R.D.T kits and insecticide-treated mosquito nets and development malaria laboratories. Conclusion: It seems that with political support and the effective work of health care workers and staffs in health system, malaria can be eliminated in the near future. Of course the negative impact of malaria epidemics in our neighboring country, Pakistan and the role of illegal immigrants should not be overlooked. To handle this problem undoubtedly we require to strengthen the intersectoral cooperations as well as improving educational activities.
