Abstract:

Background: Medical tourists create an issue that needs to be investigated in different parts of the world. Increasing expectations of health tourists for health services improves the quality of nursing care services for foreign clients. Due to globalization, nurses are required to handle the increasing number of overseas visitors and immigrants. Objectives: This study was conducted to assess cultural capability in the professional care of nurses for medical tourists in Iran. Methods: We conducted 23 semi-structured interviews in 2021-2022 in this qualitative study. The interviewees included nurses from international wards and wards with international patients, patients, patient companions, and doctors. The interviews were conducted using a goal-oriented method. After recording, the data were analyzed using the conventional qualitative content analysis of Lundman and Graneheim. Results: In this study, a main theme called “, Cultural capability in professional care”,was categorized into 8 categories: “, Culture-oriented language communication, ”,“, Culture-oriented communication interactions, ”,"Cultural humility, " "valuing cultural diversity, " "context-based client training, " and "respectful communication. ". Conclusions: Cultural capability in the professional care of nurses is important for providing comprehensive and quality care because patients come with different cultural beliefs and from different geographical areas.

Abstract:

Background: Positive communication between staff and parents is considered a basic principle for the successful implementation of family-centered care (FCC) and the formation of a good relationship between parents and neonates. Moreover, involvement in care depends on the communication and interaction of parents with healthcare providers, and cooperation between them leads to high-quality care for neonates. However, interaction and communication are still considered major challenges in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) environment. Since these challenges and communication barriers are different in various cultures and environments, they should be identified in the field. A literature review shows that no study has assessed the views of different members of the treatment team and parents on communication barriers in Iran. Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate the communication barriers related to personnel and parents for implementing FCC from the perspective of parents, physicians, nurses, and nursing managers. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted in 2021-2022 using the conventional content analysis approach in a NICU in Tehran, Iran. In this study, 26 semi-structured interviews and 10 field notes were used to collect data to reach data saturation. Results: Data analysis led to the emergence of two themes. The first theme was the unprofessional relationships of personnel, including two main categories of inappropriate professional behavior and lack of attention to personnel and working conditions of the ward. The second theme was mutually ineffective relationships between personnel and parents, including twomain categories of the inappropriate attitude of personnel and parents toward each other and unsympathetic communication between personnel and parents. The themes showed the participants’,experiences of communication barriers to the implementation of FCC in NICUs in Iran. Conclusions: Removing communication barriers between healthcare providers and parents requires developing a coherent, comprehensive, and unified training program to prepare and create integrated coordination among the treatment team and the family, creating a positive attitude toward FCC and the presence of parents, improving relationships, and giving further attention and support by managers to personnel and the conditions of the ward.

Abstract:

Background: Mini stories are short, fictional narratives illustrating a particular concept or idea. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of mini-stories as a teaching technique based on teachers’,experiences who have used this approach in their classrooms. Methods: A qualitative research approach was used to gather data from teachers using mini-stories as a teaching technique. A total of 8 professors from different scientific fields were selected for this study. Each participant was interviewed individually, and the interviews were recorded and transcribed for analysis. The data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. Results: Student-centered and teacher-centered are two categories extracted with ten sub-categories extracted, including relevance to the lesson, attractiveness, brevity, informality, creativity, reflection, problem-solving, age appropriateness, effectiveness, and reflection. Conclusions: The study’, s findings reveal a two-fold teaching approach, encompassing teacher-centered and student-centered modes. Mini-stories represent a valuable teaching technique, captivate students, elucidate complex concepts, and stimulate critical thinking.

Abstract:

Background: This study aimed to compare diltiazem-ointment and safflower oil in reducing the necrosis of accidental rat flaps. Method: We divide 40 mice into four groups. We created a 10 ,3 random flap on the back of rats after washing with ketamine intraperitoneal. The flap was used for these four groups of ointments from two days before surgery to five days after surgery. We used diltiazem ointment in the first group, safflower essential oil in the second group and vaseline in the third group. The fourth group was for control Results: Themeannecrosis of the flap was observed in 49% of the vaseline group, 52% of the diltiazem group, 53% safflower essential oil group, and 47% of the control group. The P-value with the independent groups’,test was more than 0. 05 and confirmed no significant difference between Wistar rat groups. Vaseline, diltiazem, and safflower essential oil did not increase blood flow to the random flap in mice. Conclusions: Diltiazem and safflower did not improve blood flow to the flap. Since this drug has not been used for flaps, it is suggested that further studies be conducted in this field.

Abstract:

Background: Despite all the available guidelines for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), less emphasis has been placed on oral care to reduce the viral load in the mouth and saliva. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate oral hygiene habits and infection control behaviors and their relationship with household transmission rates in patients with COVID-19. Methods: In this analytical cross-sectional study, 179 patients with COVID-19 were investigated through continuous sampling in 2021-2022. The data collection tool was a 3-section questionnaire, including (1) social and clinical information about the individual infected with COVID-19, preliminary information about family members and transfer to another person in the family, (2) oral hygiene habits during quarantine, and (3) infection control behaviors. The collected data were analyzed using independent t-test, ANOVA, Spearman’, s correlation, and chi-square test in SPSS version 24. Results: The rate of household disease transmission was 61. 5%. There was no significant relationship between oral hygiene habits and the household transmission of COVID-19 (P = 0. 108),however, the use of a shared toothbrush container and a toothpaste tube among family members was significantly related to the rate of household transmission (P = 0. 042 and P > 0. 001, respectively). Conclusions: No relationship was found between oral hygiene habits and the intra-familial transmission of COVID-19,however, oral hygiene habits were influential in contracting a more severe type of disease and hospitalization rate. Using shared toothbrush containers and toothpaste tubes by the family members increased the probability of household transmission of COVID-19.
