Abstract: 

Background and aim: Today, the quantitative and qualitative research on the scientific outputs of various fields has been considered in universities and scientific centers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the status of Iran's scientific outputs in the field of energy and fuel and compare it with that of the Middle East countries. Material and methods: In this applied and scientometric study, the data were collected by advanced searching in the Web of Science. These data were related to the energy and fuel from 1998 to 2017. HistCite and VOSviewer were used to analyze the data and draw the scientific maps, and Excel software was applied for statistical analysis. Findings: The results showed that Iran had 10870 indexed documents in the field of energy and fuel. The highest number of documents was published in 2016. In terms of the number of documents in this field, Iran ranked 13th in the world and first in the Middle East. Moreover, in terms of international cooperation in the world and Middle East, Iran was the most cooperative with the United States and Turkey. The most common keywords used by Iranian researchers were optimization, genetic algorithm and exergy, respectively. Furthermore, by reviewing the topics in the most cited articles of the world, it was found that these articles were more focused on renewable energy while in Iran, more focused on non-renewable energy. Conclusion: The findings indicated that the Iran’ s documents had growing trend in this field. Although Iran has a good position in the Middle East in terms of the number of documents, it has a poor performance in terms of the number of citations and Hirsch index, which should be taken into consideration.

Abstract: 

Background and aim: Scientific collaboration is a process in which two or more authors share their resources and talents in order to create a common work. The aim of this study was to investigate the co-authorship status of the Journal of Family Research of Shahid Beheshti University. Material and methods: The scientometric methods were used in the current study. The population included all articles from the Journal of Family Research of Shahid Beheshti University from 2005 to 2016. Totally, 320 articles and 911 authors were investigated, and the data were analyzed using Excel and SPSS. Findings: The findings of the study showed that each article of this Journal had 2. 8% authors in the period of the study. It was also found that the average co-authorship rate in articles of the Journal of Family Research was 0. 60% during these years. Moreover, the highest number of authors in the articles was allocated to the universities of Shahid Beheshti, Isfahan and Tehran, respectively. In total, the average number of authors in the articles of the Journal of Family Research was three. Conclusion: The scientific co-authorship rate was low in the Journal of Family Research.

Abstract: 

Background and aim: Digital libraries have been attracted by many countries around the world in recent years, and many scientific outputs regarding to digital libraries have been published. The aim of this study was to analyze the scientific papers of the world in the field of digital libraries based on quantitative and qualitative indicators with focus on Iran's rank. Material and methods: This descriptive-analytical study with a scientometric approach was evaluated 5637 papers indexed in Web of Science (WoS) by the end of 2016. The HistCite software was used for data analysis and VOSviewer software was applied for drawing the maps related to thematic and co-authorship analysis. Findings: The result indicates that the scientific papers of the world have had an increasing trend in this field. H-index of articles was 93 and 18 in the world and Middle East countries, respectively. The United States of America (USA) had the highest number of articles (2221) with h-index 81. Iran had h-index 7. It was found that single-authored paper had the highest frequency among global papers. Scientific collaborative coefficient was 0. 44 and 0. 54 for global and Iranian researchers during 35 years, respectively. Conclusion: The research results suggest that most scientific articles of digital libraries have been published by several countries, with the USA topping the list. In the Middle East, Iran has the largest share in science production with 41 articles.

Abstract: 

Background and aim: Institutional repositories are digital archives to collect, manage, disseminate and preserve the scientific resources. The aim of this study was to investigate the status of using institutional repositories in different higher education centers of Iran. Material and methods: In this survey study, OpenDOAR and ROAR directories were used to extract the Iranian's institutional repositories as well as the Ranking Web of World Repositories website were applied to assess the rank of institutional repositories. Findings: The findings showed that 17 organizational institutional repositories were active in Iran's scientific centers, of these, 13, 3 and 1 institutional repositories were used Eprints and Dspce and Green Stone softwares. Moreover, none of Iranian institutional repositories has been included in the webometric ranking. Conclusion: The use of institutional repositories in Iran's universities has been growing, but it is very low compared to the number of Iranian academic and research centers.

Abstract: 

Background and aim: One of the areas of content analysis is citation analysis. The aim of this study was to do citation analysis of theses and research projects in Islamic Azad University of Kermanshah. Material and methods: The statistical population of this scientometric study was 351 documents including master's theses (307) and research projects (44), selected based on stratified sampling among 4000 documents using Morgan's table. Data were collected using a researcher-made checklist and analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics (Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Kruskal-Wallis and Friedman tests). Findings: Findings showed that there was a significant difference between the number of Persian and non-Persian resources in master's theses and research projects. Moreover, there was a significant difference between the number of sources of master's theses and research projects based on update and type of resources (P=0. 001). Conclusion: More Persian resources are cited in theses than research projects.

Abstract: 

Background and aim: Today, scientometrics is the main method of assessing and comparing the scientific publications of countries, universities, scientific institutions, specific subjects and authors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the Iranian scientific outputs on thalassemia based on scientometric indicators. Material and methods: In this scientometric study, the social network analysis was used to investigate the co-authorship, word co-occurrence and collaborative coefficient. The study population included 476 articles on thalassemia, indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) from 2006 to 2016. Excel، Raver-matrix، SPSS19، UCINET 6/28، Netdraw 2/141 and VOSviewer were utilized for data analysis based on scientometric indicators. Findings: The growth rate (27. 94%) suggested that scientific outputs on thalassemia had an increasing trend in the WoS. Mean collaborative coefficient was 0. 78, and the findings showed that there was a significant relationship between the number of authors and citations to each paper (p=0. 05). The Pearson correlation coefficient was 0. 650, indicating a direct and positive relationship among the studied variables. However, the co-authorship network of authors and institutes with density of 0. 006 and 0. 015 indicated low coherence of researchers' network in the field of thalassemia. Conclusion: In the field of thalassemia, both scientific outputs and scientific cooperation level have increasing trend, but compared to other fields, the collaborative network has no good coherence, and it is a great way to achieve the desired status.
