Abstract: 

Background and aim: One of the most common methods of evaluation of researchers' scientific outputs and their affiliated organizations is using different methods of scientometrics, which is done by a citation databases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the scientific outputs of Mazandaran University from 2006 to 2016.Material and methods: This descriptive study was conducted using scientometric approach. Research population was the indexed papers in Scopus citation (4091 documents). Data related to articles with the affiliation of (AF-ID="University of Mazandaran") were searched in the Scopus. Then, the time limit for scientific output was defined (LIMIT-TO (PUBYEAR)) and the final research was conducted. Finally, data were analyzed using Excel and SPSS.Findings: The results showed that the scientific outputs of Mazandaran University have increased during the study period. The least amount of scientific output was in 2006, and the highest in 2013. The largest number of indexed documents, the most received citations, and the prolific authors (60%) belong to the Faculty of Chemistry and Physics. In terms of the type of the indexed scientific documents, the largest number was related to research papers (93.4%), In terms of scientific collaboration and inter-organizational co-authorship, Mazandaran University had the most cooperation with neighboring universities.Conclusion: Totally, due to the ascending trend of recorded documents until 2013 and its descending one in the following years and for observing the research results of researchers in the world and reaching the University to the peak of their scientific publications, this University authorities should be provided the conditions in which the researchers can achieve to the necessary motivation and ability for publication in valid scientific journals.

Abstract: 

Background and aim: The aim of this study was to understand, acknowledge and assess the scientific outputs in order to compare the scientific map of Iran with the global scientific map so that we could identify the interdisciplinary fields and make better decisions and policies in launching new fields of study.Material and methods: This applied research is scientometric in terms of approach and descriptive research in terms of data collection. Statistical population was all published articles of Iranian researchers, indexed in the Web of Science from 2005 to 2015. Data analysis and scientific mapping were performed using Excel, Bibexcel, VOSviewer and Pajek.Findings: Drawing a map of Iranian scientific outputs indicated that the most scientific outputs were in the majors of Electronics Engineering (21614 cases). The highest degree of Iranian interdisciplinary scientific outputs was related to the fields of Electronics and Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanics, Physics and Interdisciplinary Math. The majors of Electronics Engineering, Energy and Fuels and Chemical Engineering are the poles of interdisciplinary fields in Iran as well as the majors of Computer Sciences and Biochemistry have the betweenness centrality among other interdisciplinary fields.Conclusion: Comparing the rate of Iranian scientific outputs with that of global outputs has shown that Iran is one of the fastest growing countries in the world but is poor in terms of interdisciplinary studies. Identifying these areas in this study can help to make a better policy for maintaining and enhancing them.

Abstract: 

Background and aim: This study aimed to examine co-authorship and collaboration of scientific outputs in the field of agriculture. Moreover, it investigated their visibility in Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) from 2007 to 2013.Material and methods: This survey study was done using scientometric method and population included the scientific outputs published in journals of agriculture indexed in ISC from 2007 to 2013. Data were analyzed via descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS, Excel and Pajek softwares.Findings: The results showed that there was an ascending trend in papers published in the field of agriculture during 2007-2013. In addition, from 15128 papers indexed in ISC, 92.3% had coauthors and 7.7% had no co-authors. The published papers had ascending trend from 2017 in the year of 2007 to 3250 titles in 2013. Yearly rate of growth was %9.27 during 2007-2013.Conclusion: There was a positive and significant relationship between co-authorship papers and their visibility in the field of agriculture. The presence of the co-author will influence on the number of citations to the article so that co-authorship will increase the citations.

Abstract: 

Background and aim: Scientific collaborations increase citations and its results in the others' research. This aim of this study was to determine the number of authors in different majors of humanities, basic sciences and arts and the relationship between the number of authors and number of citations on Iranian articles indexed in the Web of Science.Material and methods: The present study was conducted using descriptive and analytical methods through scientometric methods. The research population was all articles published by Iranian researchers on the topics of basic sciences, humanities and art, indexed in the Web of Science in 2012, which were 17671 documents. The number of citations of articles has been recorded by May 2016. The year of 2016 was selected for the articles in the various categories would have enough time to get the citation. Data were collected via referring to articles in each field, counting the number of authors in each article and the number of citations received each article until May 2016. Bib Excel, Excel, and SPP softwares were used to analyzed the data.Findings: This research has shown that the largest share of research collaboration in Iran is in a group of two to five people. Moreover, there was a relationship and correlation between the number of authors and the number of citations in different majors.Conclusion: Among the examined categories, the field of medicine had the highest correlation coefficient between the number of authors and the number of citations, and archeology had the lowest correlation.

Abstract: 

Background and aim: Findings from studies on science assessment and evaluation are the most important tools for planning and policy-making in each country; therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the scientific output in the field of Persian Gulf in Scopus during 1996-2015.Material and methods: This descriptive survey study was performed using scientometrics method. The study population was the indexed articles in Scopus with keyword of Persian Gulf from 1996 to 2015. Data were analyzed using analytical tools in Scopus and SPSS 21.Findings: The results have shown that all 2667 documents written by 84 countries have been published in 160 journals with 27 different fields. The average growth rate of annual outputs was 22.5% in the world, 17.5% in the Middle East and 39.2% in Iran. Moreover, 23.8% of the documents have one author and documents with three or two authors are in the next ranks. Most scientific outputs are related to the field of "medicine".Conclusion: In the last 20 years, we are faced with significant growth in scientific outputs in the field of Persian Gulf. Although Iran has the most scientific outputs in this field, the qualitative evaluation of scientific outputs published by this country via indices of "the average number of citations of articles" and "h-index" has indicated their low effectiveness, which should be paid attention.

Abstract: 

Background and aim: Given the special status and wide usage of image retrieval in various fields, the present investigation studied on the research trends and significant factors within the field of image retrieval and drawing the co-word map based on the articles indexed in Web of Science.Material and methods: This scientometric study was performed using bibliometric techniques such as co-citation analysis. Samples of the current study were all articles indexed in ISI in the field of image retrieval from 2001 to 2012. Therefore, 2537 papers were retrieved in this field. Citespace and VOSviewer were applied for co-word analysis.Findings: The highest centrality with the number of 0.18 has been related to the term "image retrieval". "Content based image retrieval" and "relevance feedback" both with 0.15 centrality have been in the next rank. The Highest burst with the number of 11.59 was belonged to "pattern recognition society". "Content-based image retrieval", "image database" with the number of 7.53 and 5.79 burst have won the second and third ranks, respectively. Sigma was obtained 1.39 for the "shape" and 1 for other terms during this period. Also, the analysis of co-word network in VOSviewer indicated 9 scientific clusters in the field of image retrieval.Conclusion: The analysis of co-word network in the field of image retrieval have shown that the content-based image retrieval is one of the most important approaches in the field of image retrieval in the past years.
