Abstract:

Introduction: Virtual reality (VR) is an attempt to remove the boundaries between real and virtual space. It is a computer environment that mimics real-world scenarios and, of course, a fun platform that can be appealing to children with cerebral palsy. The present study aims to investigate the effect of video games in a virtual reality environment on motor function of children with cerebral palsy. Materials and Methods: The method of this study was quasi-experimental with pre-test and posttest with a control group. Thirty patients with cerebral palsy were selected in Tabriz city in 2019 and were divided into two groups of experimental and control (15 in each). The experimental group received 20 minutes of 45-minute sessions using video games in virtual reality environments; however, the control group did not receive any intervention. In the end, to evaluate the differences, the above test (post-test) was performed again for both groups. Data were analyzed by SPSS-23 software. In addition to descriptive statistics, multivariate analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data. Results: The data analysis showed that video games in a virtual reality environment had a significant effect on the motor function of children with cerebral palsy (p<0/01). Conclusion: According to the results of this research, it can be concluded that virtual reality video games can be used as a complementary therapy along with other conventional treatments for people with cerebral palsy.

Abstract:

Introduction: Anger and aggression are found in all cultures and are the most common kind of behavioral problems, which cause discomfort and distress in others; thus, they disrupt the mental health of the community. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of anger management training on the reduction of aggression and cortisol levels in aggressive male adolescents in Najaf Abad city in 2018. Materials and methods: The research method was semi-experimental with pre-test and post-test in two control and experimental groups. The subjects consisted of 30 high school male students in Najaf Abad who had a high score in the Spielberger anger inventory. They were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (n=15 in each group). First, cortisol levels were tested in each group, and then eight sessions of training in anger management skills were held for the experimental group. After completing the training sessions, both groups were tested and completed the Spielberger anger inventory again. Univariate analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data. Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between the post-test mean scores of two experimental and control groups, and anger management training was effective on the reduction of cortisol and aggression level in the experimental group at the significant level of p<0. 05. Conclusion: Anger management training can be considered as a supportive and effective tool for reducing aggression and used for aggressive adolescents in particular.

Abstract:

Introduction: The link between biomechanical parameters and backward gait training protocol in association with knee osteoarthritis is not well understood. This study, therefore, aims to investigate the effect of backward gait training protocol on spatial-temporal-distance gait parameters in patients with medial knee osteoarthritis. Material and Methods: Twenty-one healthy males and 42 patients with medial knee osteoarthritis participated in this study. Patients were divided into two equal groups, namely experimental and control, according to the Kellgren-Lawrence index and the visual analog scale. The experimental group performed a six-week backward gait training protocol. A Vicon T-Series camera system was used to evaluate the 3-D motion of spatial-temporal-distance gait parameters. Paired t-test and ANOVA were applied for data analyses (p≤ 0. 05). Results: Both osteoarthritis patient groups before training protocol had prolonged stride time (p=0. 05, p=0. 045) and slower walking speed (p=0. 016, p=0. 013) compared to the healthy subjects. The retro-gait training protocol reduced stride time (P=0. 376) and increased walking speed (P= 0. 093) in the experimental group compared with the healthy group. However, a significant difference was maintained between stride time (P = 0. 445) and speed (P = 0. 016) in the healthy and control groups after training. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, backward gait training protocol had a significant effect on stride time and walking speed in patients with medial knee osteoarthritis. Therefore, it appears that reducing stride time and walking speed can change the gait pattern and possibly decrease the load on the knee in patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Introduction: Decreased quality of life is one of the factors that can lead to marital infidelity. Extramarital relationships are among the factors affecting women's quality of life. Positive psychotherapy is a new approach used in clinical and non-clinical populations. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effectiveness of positive psychotherapy on quality of life in women hurt from marital infidelity Materials and Methods: This research was a quasi-experimental study. The statistical population included all women hurt by betrayal in Tabriz in 2019, who were referred to the Welfare Organization's Advisory Centers by the Provincial Justice for consultation that 30 of them were selected using available sampling method and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (15 in each). Both groups completed the short form of the Quality of Life Questionnaire as pre-test and post-test. Eight sessions of positive group psychotherapy (two sessions a week for 4 weeks) were held to the experimental group, while the control group did not receive any intervention. Data were analyzed using multivariate and univariate analysis of covariance. Results: Between positive psychotherapy and control group in terms of physical health (p=0. 001, 2 F =0. 60), mental health (p=0. 001, F 2 =0. 79), social relationships (p=0. 001, F 2 =0. 82), environmental health (p=0. 001, F 2 =0. 80), as well as quality of life and general health (p=0. 001, F 2 =0. 71), a significant difference was observed from pre-test to post-test. Conclusion: Positive psychotherapy training is recommended as an effective intervention to improve the quality of life of women hurt by betrayal.

Abstract:

Introduction: The homework, in addition to its positive effects on learning, can have negative effects on students' emotions, which have, in turn, a direct effect on parents' feelings, reactions, and emotions. This study aims to investigate the contribution of homework to the formation of stress in elementary school students and their parents. Material and methods: In this descriptive study, 263 students were recruited from two groups of homework and non-homework schools by random sampling in Rafsanjan (2018). After informed consent, the students completed the Child's Inventory for Homework Stress, and their parents completed the Parent's Inventory for Homework Stress and Perceived Stress Scale. Data were analyzed by nonparametric tests, including Mann– Whitney U and Spearman coefficient. Results: The stress of students with homework was higher than those without significantly (p=0. 039). Additionally, the stress of parents was higher in the homework group than those in the non-homework group (p<0. 001). However, the parents of the non-homework group had a greater perception of stress than the other group (p<0. 001). Conclusion: It seems that homework is a stressful factor for both students and their parents. Also, parents of non-homework students suffer from some sort of latent stress, which may be due to the lack of awareness of what their children have learned. Further studies are needed in the filed.

Abstract:

Introduction: Given the key role of activity in the development of physical and mental health during pregnancy, this study aimed to evaluate the adherence and effect of the designed exercise training program on the physical and mental health of pregnant women. Materials and Methods: The present quasi-experimental study was performed with pre-test and post-test without the control group, in which the separation of adherent and non-adherent groups was performed in an Ex post facto design. The study was carried out on 150 pregnant mothers in Tabriz city using convenience sampling in 2018-2019. Initially, data on the level of physical activity and physical-mental health were collected from all subjects. The designed exercises were given to the subjects to perform at home after one-session training. After eight weeks, the adherence to the exercises was evaluated, and the physical-mental effects of exercise were compared in two groups. The total number of samples in the secondary assessments was 114. ANCOVA and Mann-Whitney U tests were used to compare variables between the two groups. Results: Adherence to the training program was 3. 15 sessions per week. Thirty-four pregnant mothers (30%) adhered to exercise, showing a significant decrease in activity heart rate (p=0/044) and significant increases in low body strength (p=0/042) and SPo2 (p= 0/005) compared to non-exercising women. There was no significant difference in mental health between the two groups (p>0/05). Conclusion: Although the designed exercise training program had beneficial effects on some physical functions of pregnant mothers, it did not affect their mental health.

Abstract:

Introduction: Impulsivity, coupled with potentially damaging long-term effects, necessitates the need to provide psychological interventions for women on the verge of divorce. Therefore, the present study is conducted to compare the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral and compassion-focused therapies on women's impulsivity. Materials and Methods: The research was interventional pre-test post-test control group design, which was done through a random assignment and a three-month follow-up. The sample was selected by convenient sampling. Forty-five women on the verge of divorce were assigned to two experimental and one control groups. The research tool included Barrett Impulsivity Scale (BIS-11). Data were analyzed through the mutual variance analysis method by the repeated measurements. Results: The mean of impulsivity variable in different stages showed a significant difference before, after, and three months after intervention (p<0. 001). In the post-intervention stages, although the mean score of impulsivity decreased in all three groups, the rate of reduction in two intervention groups was significantly higher than the control group. Conclusion: The results showed that cognitive-behavioral therapy and compassion-focused therapy could probably reduce impulsivity caused by divorce, the latter being more efficient. It seems that the results of the research provide empirical evidence in reducing impulsivity for both therapies.
