Introduction: This study was performed to evaluate the prevalence of low T3 syndrome among patients with heart failure and to assess the correlation between decreased levels of tri iodothyronin (T3) with mortality rate. Methods: In a prospective cross-sectional study, 91 patients with systolic heart failure were admitted to Mohammadi hospital in Bandar Abbas in 2008. Thyroid function test was done for every patient, then all of the cases were divided into two groups, according to 60£T3£120 mg/ml in normal T3 group and T3<60 mg/ml in low T3 group based on lab references. Mortality rate in these two groups was compared in a 8-months follow up.Results: Sick euthyroid syndrome was found in 31 (34.1%) cases. Mortality rate was 19.4% (6 cases) in low T3 group and 8.3% (5 cases) in normal T3 group. The association between mortality rate and decreased level of T3 was not statistically significant (P=0.12).Conclusion: This study did not show any significant correlation between mortality rate and decreased level of triodothyronin (T3).

Introduction: A number of studies have demonstrated that infectious mico organisms like helicobacter pylori may play a role in the process of atherosclerosis. We, here, aimed to investigate the effect of Helicobacter pylori DNA in atherosclerotic plaques in patients with coronary artery disease. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 85 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) in Jorjani heart center, Bandar Abbas, were enrolled. Using standard questionnaire, demographic and clinical data were gathered. Obtained specimens were processed and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was carried out. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS.Results: Helicobacter pylori DNA was detected within atherosclerotic plaques, in only 4 out of 85 patients (4.7%), whereas, 3 out of 85 control specimens from internal mammary artery were positive for presence of the mentioned bacteria. There was no difference between atherosclerotic plaque and thoracic biopsy in terms of Helicobacter pylori DNA positivity. Conclusion: We did not find any association between the presence of Helicobacter pylori and development of atherosclerosis.

Introduction: Teucrium polium (TP) is a plant which its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties has been widely reported. In the present experiment, effect of hydroalcoholic extract of TP on skin wound healing in rats is investigated. Methods: 30 wistar rats randomly divided in 3 equal groups as follow: control (saline), 50 and 100 mg/ml of TP extract. One day after wounds induction, they were locally applied with saline (control), TP 50 mg/ml, or TP 100 mg/ml, accordingly. Wound areas were measured on days 1, 5, 9, 13 and 17. Data were analyzed using ANOVA for repeated measured data. Results: Wound area between control and both doses of TP extract was significantly different at 9th (P<0.005), 13th (P<0.005) and 17th (P<0.001) days. Wound healing percent between control and both doses of TP was also significantly different at 5th, 9th, 13th days (P<0.001), and 17th day (P<0.005). Furthermore, a significant different was shown between control and TP doses in the duration of complete wound healing (P<0.001).Conclusion: hydro-alcoholic extract of Teucrium polium accelerates skin wound healing process and decreases the duration of complete wound healing.

Introduction: The concept of life quality includes individual potential ability, following up of interests and quality of welfare feeling. Meta-analysis is a new method of study which evaluates the results of previous studies related to underlying subjects. Methods: Of 30 accomplished researches about effective agents in life quality of special patients, 17 researches were chosen for meta-analysis. These studies were selected, based on research methodology components such as research questions, statistical theories study population, sampling methods, research methods, statistical methods, validity and reliability of the questionnaires. Statistical analysis was performed by use of comprehensive meta-analysis software. Results: Combination of effect size by Schmitt and Huuts method shows that, variables such as self-care teaching, smoking, gender, marriage life, education and disease period are related to quality of life. There was no association between age and employment with the life quality. Conclusion: The findings of this study shown that individual, social, psychic and demography factors can influence the life quality of special patients. This information could be used in therapeutic schematization and medicine cares of patients. This information may increase the life quality of special patients.

The findings showed that, prevalence of hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder was decreased with age, while combined type of disorder was increased with age. The prevalence of hyperactivity and attention deficit disorders in boys and girls was not significantly different but in the combined type disorder (ADHD) this difference was significant (P<0.05).Difference between girls and boys in co-morbidity of ADHD disorders (attention deficit, hyperactivity, and combined type) and psychiatry disorders (conduct, depressive, urinary incontinence, tic, schizophrenia oppositional, obsessive- compulsive, manic, social phobia), was not statistically. Conclusion: Prevalence of the disorder subtypes was different among age groups and gender but, it was not statistically different between co-morbidity of ADHD disorders and psychiatry disorders.
