The area under study lies in western part of Maharashtra state, India. It is about 300 sq Kms bounded by latitude 16o 10' 0"-16°18' 10" N and longitude 73° 40' 0"-73° 53' 0" E. Te area exhibits a variety of geological formations namely, Archean, Kaladgis and Deccan Trap. The physico-chemical characteristics shows that the soil-sediments are formed under river water and rain water environments, they show high solubility and replace ability series of Ca>Mg>Na>K.The chemical study of the soil samples shows the medium to high moisture content in the soils. They show the incomplete leaching of feldspatic content of parent rock. They show presence of high concentration of iron oxide due to the substitution of Fe+3for aluminum in the structure. They show the variation of element concentration such as Si, Ca, K and Fe.Where as the distribution of Al, Mg, Mn and Ti are regular. The studies of chemical weathering parameters show the strong chemical weathering conditions. The molar ratios define the nature and degree of chemical weathering. The common molar ratios are weathering potential index and product index. The study of these two parameters shows the indication of mixture of immature and mature sediments with clay minerals other than kaolin in relative abundances. The trace element concentration such as Zn, Cu, NI, Cr, Co and V.The presence of such elements in the soil shows high concentrations. The presence of these elements shows the presence of ferromagnesian minerals like hornblendes pyroxene and olivine etc.
