Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the analgesic effect of Fritillaria Imperialist compared that of to morphine.Materials & Methods: Forty male albino wistars (250-300g) were used. The animals were selected and studied randomly in four groups (n=10) as follows: Groups A, Band C were tested with the Aqueous Extract of Fritillaria Imperialist Bulbs (AEFB) at doses of 50 , 100, and 200 mg/kg, po respectively. Group D was administered by morphine (2 mg/kg, S.c). To evaluate the possible analgesic effect of this plant the acute (Tail-Flick) pain model was used in male rats. Results: Administration of 50 and 100 mg/kg of AEFB in group A and B didn't show any effect in the Tail- Flick test. However, AEFB (200 mg/kg) in group C reduced the pain significantly (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between groups C and D.Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the AEFB has analgesic effect. It seems that the analgesic effect of AEFB was associated with the presence of some alkaloids such as impericine and forticine.

Introduction: There are conflicting reports on whether preeclampsia shortens or prolongs labor. The current study was carried out to determine the impact of preeclampsia on labor course in women inducing such an indication.Materials & Methods: A prospective cohort study in 100 nulliparous preeclamptic and 100 normal cases was performed in Shahid Yahyanejad Hospital in Babol. All the information including primary prenatal, duration of labor and neonatal outcome were recorded and analyzed using SPSS software, to compare the variables between preclamptic and normal cases. Results: There were no significant differences in maternal age and amniotic fluid abnormalities in two groups(P<0.05). Cesarian delivery rate was much higher in preeclamptic group while no significant difference was found in either group for dilated cervixes. There was a significant increase in the duration of the first stage delivery in preaclamtic women for both normal and induced deliveries (P<0.05). No difference was found between the two groups for the duration of second stage of labor (P>0.05).Discussion: The clinical belief that preaclamptic patients have more rapid labors was supported. Preeclampsia was associated with an increased risk of cesarian delivery and prolongation of the first phase of labor.

Introduction: Useing grinding wheels in casting and polishing operations at high speed produces airborne pollutants(dust). This situation necessitates a method of controlling on such instruments. This study was conducted to assess the comparative methods which may reduce dust particles during grinding. Materials & Methods: In this experimental study, an experimental grinding operation was performed to manipulate a few variables in Tehran in 2002.Pollutant control systems (fan- baffle) were applied in this operation. Then with the control of wheel speed in each stage the level of exhaust dust from cast iron was evaluated, and finally with comparison of the results the most effective solution was selected. Results: The results indicated relationship between speed of wheel and exhaust dust revealed with an increase in speed of wheel (29001 min), airborne pollutants increased (601.2/mglmol). This experimental study showed that with the increase in speed of wheel, the exhaust dust have big diameters. With installation of fan and baffle on the grinder, showed that is tool has a positive effect on the reduction of exhaust airborne pollutants. Conclusion: It is concluded that installing fan- baffles as well as systems to control the wheel speed will reduce the air- borne.

Introduction: This study has been conducted to find out the frequency of tension headache (the most common headache) in patients with all types of adjustment disorder. High prevalence of tension headache is accompanied by depression and anxiety.Materials & Methods: In this study, 1601patients suffering from usual stresses leading to symptoms of adjustment disorder, with no previous history of psychiatric disorders, were examined on the basis of DSM-IV classification. All the patients referred to the clinic with such symptoms in that specific period were taken as samples. Patients were classified as ICD classification. Diagnosis of patients were conducted through interviews by the psychiatrist. This study includes the following variables: age, gender, tension headache, anxiety, and depression symptoms. The data was analysed using descriptive tests of SPSS software. Results: According to the data, 41% of the patients were suffering from both adjustment disorder and tension headache. Most the cases were in their 4th and 5th decades of life. Conclusion: Females suffered from tension headache more commonly than males in all ages. Anxiety symptoms among different types of adjustment disorders were the most common type accompanied by tension headaches.

Introduction: Human Serum Albumin (HSA) is a single strand protein (MW = 67.5 kD) including 585 amino acid. Its main role in blood is to regulate osmotic bloodpressure. It carries some metabolites and drugs in blood. Materials & Methods: The effect of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) as an anionic surfactant on the function of HSA at the physiological and pathological temperatures (35°C and 45°C) was studied using spectroscopic methods. Results: The results indicated that SDS-HSA interaction is a three-step process including phases I to III The phase III for both temperatures is similar but the others are different. SDS in the low concentration interacts with proteins by electrostatic fashion, therefore, it seems that the pathological temperatures affect the electrostatic properties of HSA. This effect alters the surface changes of HAS reducing the role of HAS, in providing the blood osmotic pressure at the pathological temperatures. Conclusion: Fever causes the conformational change for HSA that leads to the reduction of body temperature.

Abstract:

Introduction: Needle stick injuries (NSI) have a significant role in exposing the health care workers to blood – borne pathogens. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence rate of such injuries among vaccinators of measles-rubella mass vaccination campaign in Fars province. Materials & Methods: In 2003, this descriptive- analytic study was performed on 1618 vaccinators via a questionnaire form containing demographics and information about number, site and the way injuries took place. In addition to descriptive statistics, Fischer Exact Test was used for analysis of the data. Results: The incidence rate of NSIs, was 29/1000 among Fars vaccinators, 27.6% of whom were injured more than once. The most common sites of injuries were the hands (88/5%) and legs (9.8%), respectively. Left hand injuries were twice more common than right hand injuries. The most common stages of the injures were incidental exposure to needle after the injection (65/5%), preparation of vaccines (19/7%), recapping (8/2%) and during injection (6/6%), respectively. Conclusion: This study showed that the incidence rate of NSIs was significant among Fars vaccinators. Emphasis on education of health care workers regarding safe discard of the used needles after the vaccine injection is recommended.

Materials & Methods: In a cohort analytical study the relationship between the mode of delivery and neonatal respiratory disorders amongst the term- borned individuals was assessed.A total of 600pregrant women out of 2006 cases were chosen and divided into there groups.a) 150 cesarian cases before Starting pain.b) 150 cesarian cases after starting pain.c) 300 normal delivery cases. All the groups were matched for the numbers of delivery, age of pregnancy, sex and neonatal weight. Finds: There was no significant correlation between the mode of delivery and the Apgur score at the first and fifth minutes. A significant correlation was found for the mode of delivery and the respiratory distress amongst the cesarian cases before and after pain (P=0.02). This correlation was also significant for the cesarian cases before pain and those who had normal deliveries (P= 0.008).The mode of delivery was significantly correlated with neonatal mortality (P=0.02). The delivery age also showed a significant correlation with respiratory disorders (P= 0.04).Conclusion: It is suggested that the beginning of delivery pain is a fine time for respiratory distress syndrome diagnosis along cesarean operations.
