Abstract:

Introduction: intensive care unit nurses are at risk of musculoskeletal disorders due to activities such as moving patients and lifting heavy objects during nursing care. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of body posture correction on musculoskeletal disorders in Nurses. Methods: This pre and post-test quasi-experimental study with two groups (case & control) was performed on 101 nurses working in intensive care unit in 2017. The sampling method was multistage sampling. At first, we selected two hospitals from four hospitals and after selecting nurses, they were divided randomly into case and control groups. Both groups completed 25 questions of the Nordic questionnaires before the intervention. Then in the case group, four sessions of 60 minutes were performed weekly. The nurses were also encouraged to perform stretching exercises for the neck, shoulder and upper limbs. Three months later, two groups completed the questionnaire again. Data was analyzed by SPSS24 software using Wilcoxon test, Covariance analysis and regression analysis. Results: The two groups were matched at the beginning of the study and did not have a significant difference (P<0. 05). According to Nordic questionnaire, the highest prevalence of pain before training was in the waist (77. 3%), back (46. 5%) and head neck (45. 5%), which was decreased after the intervention to 41%, 17. 9% and 20% respectively in the case group (P<0. 05). Conclusion: Regarding the effect of educational intervention on musculoskeletal pain disorders, all nurses must be trained for body posture correction at the beginning or during their work.

Abstract:

Introduction: As therapeutic interventions had completely failed to cope with the problems facing patients with cancer, consulting with a spiritual approach in patients with cancer has been considered by researchers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of spiritual consultation on life satisfaction of patients with cancer. Method: This was a clinical trial as pre-test and post-test design. The data collection tool was a two-part questionnaire. In the first part, demographic characteristics and in the second part, life satisfaction was evaluated by The Diener Life Satisfaction Scale. Totally, 76 patients with cancer admitted to Urmia city hospital were chosen by purposive sampling and then randomly divided into two intervention and control groups. Patients in the control group received routine care hospitals, but those in the intervention group received 10 sessions of spiritual counseling. SPSS software was used for data analysis. To compare the life satisfaction scores before and after the treatment, paired t-test and independent t-test were used. Results: The mean and standard deviation scores of life satisfaction of patients in the intervention group before and after the intervention were 18. 92± 3. 33 and 23. 66± 2. 77, respectively. Also in the control group, score of patients before and after the intervention were 19. 53± 2. 88 and 19. 55± 2. 78, respectively. Paired t-test showed that life satisfaction scores before and after the treatment only in the intervention group were significantly different (P<0. 05). However, independent t-test showed that life satisfaction scores in patients with cancer between the intervention and control groups were significantly different after the intervention (P<0. 05). Conclusion: Spiritual counseling was effective on life satisfaction of patients with cancer. Nurses should pay attention to patients’ spiritual needs and help them to benefit from supports in this area.

Introduction: Premenstrual syndrome with high prevalence has a negative effect on girls’ normal living. Using drugs to relieve the symptoms and adverse effects of long-term use of the drugs can be a matter of concern. In this study, we tried to reduce the severity of premenstrual syndrome using group counseling. Methods: The study sample was girls aged 15 to 17 years old studying in high school in Hamadan in 2016. The study tools were two questionnaires containing demographic characteristics and the PSST. Of 215 participants, 120 subjects with moderate to severe menstrual syndrome were divided into two groups of 60 subjects. Subjects participated in 3 counseling sessions regarding increasing self-awareness about the premenstrual syndrome. Data was analyzed by SPSS21 using independent and paired t-test. The significance level was less than 0. 05. Results: The mean of severity of premenstrual syndrome before and after counseling sessions was not statistically significant in the both groups (P =0. 87), but after the end of the consultation, there was a significant decrease in mean severity of syndrome severity in the intervention group compared to the control group (P <0. 001). Conclusion: Counseling in premenstrual syndrome can have an effective role in reducing the severity of premenstrual symptoms.

Abstract:

Introduction: hospitalization of a child is one of the main causes of parent’ s anxiety. Regarding the importance of providing family-based care, it is necessary for nurses to support and understand parents’ needs to provide them. This study aimed to determine the role of nursing support in providing the needs of hospitalized children mothers. Method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. 250 mothers of children hospitalized in pediatric ward of Hamadan Besat Hospital, were selected by available method in 2017. Data was collected using “ nursing support from parents” , “ needs of children parents” and demographic characteristics questionnaire. Data was analyzed by SPSS16 using descriptive and Pearson correlation analysis. Results: The mean and standard deviation of the score of all needs was 38. 9 ± 10. 6. The maximum score was related to mutual trust (9. 0 ± 2. 8) and the minimum was related to support guidance and counseling (5. 1 ± 2. 1). The overall support received by mothers from nurses was 68. 3 ± 16. 2. Most of support was related to self-confidence (14. 4 ± 3. 5) and the least was emotional support (8. 2 ± 2. 8). There was a significant positive correlation between nurses support from parents and the total score of mothers’ needs (r = 0. 448, P=0. 001). Conclusion: Considering the low mean and standard deviation of some nursing support areas from parents and meeting the needs of parents, it seems necessary to plan for the provision of family-based care by nurses and their support from parents to meet their needs to improve the quality of children care.
