Abstract

IN ENGLISH: Parody, this confused and often devalued notion, has always been a part of literature. The theorists in this field opposed each other either by limiting this concept or by generalizing it. Gé, rard Genette places it in Palimpsestes at the heart of the transtexuality research method. His theory, theoretically rigorous but not so practical, limits the parody to a concept with playful objectives. D. Sangsue, L. Hutcheon, M. Rose, and other parody theorists have attempted to delimit it. Yet, they disagree on the presence or absence of a comic effect. In the present study, the authors examine if Hamlet of Laforgue and Macbeth of Ionesco-the parodic rewritings of Shakespeare's Hamlet and Macbeth-can be called parodies, and how they respond to the characteristics of this notion. The authors also study how the parody functions in these two works as well as the two writers' intentions to choose a parodic approach.
