Abstract

The present paper sought to analyze the ISIL's (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) reactionary movement in terms of sociology with an emphasis on Snow and Benford's Framing theory. The main question of paper was what caused the rise, development and fall of the ISIL? Therefore, the present paper sought to answer this question by a deductive method and collecting information and library documents. Research findings indicated that, firstly, the Framing theory provided a frame for perceiving the global mobilization of fighters in joining the ISIL. Secondly, factors such as the feeling of injustice about the status quo, the ISIL as a solution to the improvement of social status, and the accreditation of terrorist violence affected the identification of fighters. Thirdly, due to the competitive process among players and influencers in the field of collective action in the Framing theory, coping challenges such as the opposition of state players, internal disputes between ISIL leaders and members, and the contradictions of opinion and practice emerged and created an area for the fall of the ISIL's reactionary movement. The key achievements of research included the strong relationship of sociology with terrorism and the growing attention to the interpretation of dissatisfaction and other thought elements such as supporting values and beliefs of a movement that was previously faced with a research gap.
